Castlelyons v Glenville - East Cork JAFC in Cloyne today. 2016-03-26 10:16:00

Please note a change of Venue in Castlelyons v Glenville which is now on in Cloyne on today Saturday 26th March at 3.00 pm.

This local derby should be interesting as Castlelyons took the County Junior B Championship in 2014 with an injury time goal by Alan Fenton against Kilmeen to win by 1-6 to 0-7 and gave a good account of themselves recently in the U21 A Grade Semi Final against Glanmire before going down 0-10 to 1-9 after extra time.  We have a lot of very good footballers but we just play in the Championship with most concentration on the small ball.

Liam Cahill - Always worth a few scores to Glenville. However, Glenville, like the Kingdom, are past masters when it comes to the big ball and have a mighty competitive tradition.  They have won sixteen (16) East Cork titles at Junior A Grade level and are now a very successful Intermediate outfit while Castlelyons are still seeking a first Junior A title.

Glenville played two East Cork JA League games with two wins from the two starts defeating Midleton and Cloyne comprehensively.  They have good backs in Denis O Farrell and Colm Murphy.  Josh Cooke, the two Cahills Paudie and Noel are forwards who need watching and are all experienced men.

This year we have done a good bit of preparation.  We had no Club game at all with the last two weeks giving a decent run of training which should put us in the zone for a good football display.  The fact that it is the Glenville second team means little as they have no Intermediate Championship game played to date and will have a huge number of lads with first team league experience especially lads like above.

In footballing advice generally and surely many county teams can reflect on this one – the great Johan Cruyff (RIP) first philosophy was “Playing football is very simple but playing simple football is the hardest thing there is” so keep it simple.  Hopefully, we can get a simple game going and get a result in this one. The best of luck to the lads, Manager Donal O Leary, his Selectors Maurice Carroll, James Moroney today.  Let’s give them some support as it matters you know.
