Castlelyons Camogie Notes 30.03.16 2016-03-30 20:21:00

Castlelyons Camogie Club Notes: 29.03.2016.

U16’s Start League with a Win.

On Saturday 26th March our U16 camogie took to the field for their first match of the year.

Castlelyons did not enter a team in the U16 competition last year and we are fielding this year with a majority of very young players and some highly talented older girls. This match was a league game played at home to Youghal. After some heavy rain in the morning the day cleared and allowed our girls to take to the field and unlike the sun the girls truly shone.

The game started as a tight even match with both teams highly competitive, our forwards came

close on a number of occasions and eventually Castlelyons broke the dead lock with a point from play. Shortly after this we had to replace two key players due to injuries, but our girls responded to the situation as we knew they would. Castlelyons dominated the play resulting in two further goals.

Youghal were not to be outdone and responded with 2 points before the break.

On the resumption of the second half Castlelyons added further scores, but credit to Youghal they continued to battle to the end and eventually scored a goal from a penalty close to the final whistle.

At the end Castlelyons were winners on a score of 6.02 to Youghal 1.03. Each and every girl played with a level of commitment and skill in a fantastic team performance. Next U16 match is away to Erins Own, with a home game to Castlemartyr the following week. To our injured players we wish you a speedy recovery.
