Castlelyons Camogie Club Notes: 04.04.2016.

Minor D League

Erin’s Own were the opposition for the first minor match of the year on Monday evening last the 21nd March. This was a league game played on a lovely spring evening under lights in Castlelyons. The format of the league is thirteen aside and we had thirteen ready and eager girls taking to the pitch up for the challenge. Castlelyons started the better and commanded the scores in the first half. We closed out the first half leading 3-06 to no score. We commanded the scores again in the second half with another goal and two further points. Erins Own put up a brave battleHowever as time came against them Castlelyons ran out winners 4-10 to 0-02. Well done to our girls for a great performance. It’s early days yet but this team has great potential in the league. Great Spirit and commitment was shown by all the players. Special mention must go to the parents and supporters for their praise and Encouragement of the girls. All in all, a very pleasing performance for Joe Hartnett trainer/manager. We wish a speedy recovery to Emily Nolan who was injured on the night. Training continues this week with our next league match versus Kilworth scheduled for Easter Monday in Kilworth, throw in at 12.

Success continues for minor team.

Our minor girls played the second round of the league against Kilworth in Kilworth on Monday 28th March in beautiful spring conditions. Castlelyons started this game on the back of a win and we were hoping to continue our impressive start to the season. Both teams worked hard from the throw-in. We started off well and in the early stages we fired in a great goal. Kilworth found it hard to break down our forwards and suddenly we were up by two goals. Had it not been for the stout defending by the Kilworth goalkeeper we could have added to the tally. We ended the first half with a comfortable lead however we knew that Kilworth would come back tough in the second half. From the throw in of the second half Kilworth started strong but the experience of our girls coupled with sheer determination and heart drove our girls on to run out comfortable winners. We like to thank Kilworth camogie for the game and acknowledge that the club and team are in their infancy. The level of skill and commitment on display by the girls ensures that Kilworth camogie will have a bright and successful future. Go n-éirí an tádh leat. Training continues this week with our next league match versus Passage West at home this weekend time and day tbc.

U 14’s Start with a Win.

Our U14 team recorded a win in their first league match away to Rockban on Wednesday 30th. From the off, the game was a tough physical battle with high levels of intensity from both side. Gradually we began to create opportunities which eventually saw us score a goal but credit to Rockban they continued to pressure our backs, who on the night were excellent and kept their opponents at bay. Shortly before the break we scored a second goal and a point to go in  2-01 to 0-00 at half time. On the resumption of the second half, Rockban upped their intensity further, but as usual our girls responded as they have always done and dug in deep. Rockban did manage to score a goal from a long distant free but our girls true to form responded with a goal. On the final whistle Castlelyons ran out winners 3-03 to 1-00. Credit must go to the girls on this fantastic win. U 14’s will now have a break as our next competitive match will be April 30th when the team takes to the field for the annual Feile Competition. Hopefully we will continue our winning ways and give a good account of ourselves at Feile.
