County Premier Minor Final 2011 Sunday 18th September, 2011 at Pairc Uí Rinn

We have a number of the same lads lining out tonight in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship versus Courcey Rovers in Blarney at 7 pm.  So lads ye have done it at the highest level before and we are going for it in Blarney this evening with one mighty effort.  Best of luck to all.  Castlelyons Abú. Read on.

Blackrock 1-16 Castlelyons 1-11

In a pulsating Premier Minor Hurling Championship Final Castlelyons fell just short at Pairc Uí Rinn on Sunday evening the 18th September, 2011 against a much fancied Blackrock team. This was a pulsating encounter and we were beaten by five points on the score of 1-16 to 1-11. The five-point deficit at full time did not do justice to the Castlelyons performance as on the sixty-minute mark with just three points separating the teams we almost levelled the game.  Anthony Spillane pulled the trigger and his rocket of a shot come off of the upright and across the goal but was cleared. The Rockies added two further points in injury time to secure victory.

Having to move up to the top grade in 2011 because of the previous year’s B Grade final victory we were given no chance early on but after victories over Duhallow, and two outstanding successes over Midleton and St. Finbarr’s the stage was set for a crack at hurling kingpins Blackrock. Unfortunately, victory did not come our way but the effort was mighty and we were proud of the team as they gave such great value throughout the summer months.

While it was a great team performance there was a mighty individual performance from our Captain and Goalie Eoin Barry.  He was outstanding on the night as he stopped a couple of right “raspers” and drove on his backs as the crowd rose to him on a few occasions.  He won the “Man of the Match” Award that night which at least a little consolation for his great efforts.

This was the Panel who done so well in 2011
