Congratulations to everyone who travelled to Dublin On Sunday last to partake in the Hurl with Me program, They were 1 of 24 teams selected nationally. The children and parents played 3 matches against Kildangen (Tipperary), Smith O'Briens (Clare) and Mountbellow Moylough (Galway).

U14 Camogie

Our U14 team have qualified for the quarter final of the County league v Brian Dillions in Brian Dillions on Sunday 3rd July at 7.30.  Training continues in preparation of this fixture.

U16 Progress to Next Round

On Thursday 23rd we travelled to Grenagh to play the host team in the quarter final stage of the U16 County League. Grenagh having won their group had home advantage. We knew that Grenagh would prove a formidable task and this match would be the toughest to date. With some girls away on holidays and others having just completed state exams this team had not played together for a number of weeks, yet we were confident that we could progress. From the start the game swung from end to end with Grenagh coming close to scoring a number of times but as before our backs stood firm. Gradually our forwards began to make progress, and after some positional changes we were first to score a point and quickly added a further two points. Grenagh were not to be outdone and opened their scoring with two points from frees followed by a goal again from a free. Castlelyons then laid siege on the Grenagh goal and managed to register their first goal and two points from play just before half time.

On the resumption of the second half Castlelyons truly took control of the fixture and began to dominate around the middle third of the field and quickly registered a number of goals. From the back right through to the forward line each girl fought a tough battle to gain possession. Credit to Grenagh they battled hard but we managed to control all their attacks. On a night on which Castlelyons were not to be beaten we ran out winners on a score of 6-09 to1-03. With some absent players and a number of girl’s sick on the night this group showed how each member of the panel is more than capable of doing whatever is asked of them. Our next round is set for July 23rd with our opponents yet to be confirmed.

Panel on night. Niamh O'Donovan, Deidre Coleman, Lauren Crowley, Avril Beirne, Katie Coleman, Billie Shanahan, Olivia Sheehan, Anna Greaney, Nodhlaig McCarthy, Sarah Morrison, Grainne McCarthy, Sarah Murphy, Shauna Mullen, Lucy McNulty, Emily Boyd, Aine Ni Mhaolain, Ava Hallahan, Niamh Coleman, Anna Rossnier.

The panel would like to wish Grainne McCarthy the best of luck as she represents Castlelyons and Cork in the Munster U16 Long Puck competition.

Junior and Minor Camogie

By the time you read this the Junior girls would have played the second round of the summer league on Monday evening at home against Cobh. Training continues Wednesday and Friday for both groups under the watchful eye of Joe Hartnett. Reminder that the opening round of the Junior championship at time of going to press is set for Tuesday 5th of July at 7.30pm against our league final opponents Ballinora in Ballinora. Expect this to be a tough battle as Ballinora will be looking to halt our winning ways.

Best of luck

Best of luck to the Cork U21 and Minor Hurlers and the club lads involved in their matches this week. Also best of luck to Mark Murphy and the U21 Hurlers who open their championship campaign this weekend.
