Castlelyons Camogie Club Notes: 08.08.2016.

U10 Camogie

Our U 10 Camogie had a busy week with 2 Go Games.

On Tuesday evening we played St Catherine’s in Ballynoe and after 30 minutes of camogie we ran out winners after some very good individual performances.

On Saturday morning we played Fr O Neil’s at home who had a very strong outfit. O Neil’s eventually came out on topafter a very hard fought game. Well done to all girls involved. Training will continue this Wednesday & Saturday.

U16 Camogie into County League Final.

On Saturday 6th August we met with St Finbarr’s in their home grounds to do battle in the Semi-final of the county league. Despite the glorious weather forecast for the morning we were thankful the rain stayed away to allow our girls display their talents. We did not field a team at this age group last year and this year we entered the competition with a panel whose average age is just over 14 years so the odds were stacked against us.  But through to form this group of girls, who continue to astound us with their attitude and skill, were not going to disappoint us. Having lost the toss, we played into the wind for the first half. With some fine passages of play from both teams, St Finbarr’s were first to score a point quickly followed by another and raced into an early lead. As the half progressed Castlelyons settled and began to create chances. Midway into the half both teams were level again. Castlelyons fought hard for their scores and with some excellent individual work and team support we showed our little country club were an equal match for the city girls. St Finbarrs rallied again and began to pick off some fine scores, we did manage to create some goal scoring opportunities but for some excellent goal keeping by St Finbarr’s went into the break 0-06 to 0-02 to the good. After some badly needed magic water and discussions we took to the field with renewed life and began to dominate in all sectors of the field. As the second half wore on, we began to get the score board ticking over and hold St Finbarr’s attacks at bay. By the twentieth minute we were, yet again, back on level terms and back in the game. As in the first half, St Finbarr’s goalie brought off some fine saves but credit to our girls they continued to pile on the pressure and after a number of wides we took the lead. St Finbarr’s responded to the situation but great credit to our backs they held them to only one point in the second half. On the final whistle we managed to hold out for a one-point victory on a score line 0-08 to 0-07. Great credit goes to the girls on a wonderful and committed performance where each member of the panel gave 110%. The final is set for 3rd September with opponents and venue to be confirmed.

The panel on the night was as follows:

Ava Hallahan, Deirdre Coleman, Lauren Crowley, Ali O Riordan, Katie Coleman, Abbie Quirke, Billie Shanahan, Anna Greaney, Nodhlaig McCarthy, Olivia Sheehan, Gráinne McCarthy, Sarah Murphy, Niamh O'Donovan, Niamh Coleman, Sarah Morrison,Avril Beirne, Anna Rosner & Áine Ni Mhaolain.
