Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club Notes 17.02.2016 2017-02-20 14:34:00

Registration Night;

The Juvenile Registration Night was held on Friday night last in the Community Centre in Castlelyons. The night was a great success with almost 100 young players registering on the night.

Our gallant U16 hurlers were presented with new club fleeces, in recognition of their successful 2016 Rebel Og East League, Championship and County campaigns.

A huge thank you to Dave Hegarty, Lisa Hallihan and all our volunteers on the night, who served tea and coffee, fitted helmets and hurley’s and helped tidy the hall after the evening’s events. Also thank you to Bridie, for having the hall warm and ready for us on arrival. As usual, we’d be lost without her!

If your son is interested in GAA or you didn’t make Friday night for the registration, all managers will have the registration forms and packs at training sessions over the coming week. For 2017, individual membership is €15 and family membership is €25.

Club Gear Night;

Following our successful registration night, the Juvenile club will be holding a club gear ordering night this Thursday night from 7pm in the Community Centre.

There will be a selection of gear available to see and order on the night. Prices start from €7 for socks, €13 for shorts, €27 for training tops, €26 for skinny tracksuit pants and €34 for fleeces, depending on sizing’s and adding initials etc. Gear Bags will also be available to order and are priced at € 26. All items are crested and can have initials added, if required.

Scor Na bPaisti 2017;

Congratulations and well done to all the participants that travelled to Lisgoold for Scor on Saturday night last. Adrian O’Mahony represented Castlelyons in the Recitation Category and put in a great performance.

Ella Shanahan partook in the Solo Singing category and sang “Isle of Hope” beautifully.

Leah Hallihan, Matthew Rosner and Cian O Callaghan formed the quiz team who progressed through to the semi-finals which will be held on this coming Saturday, February 18th in Lisgoold. We wish Cian, Matthew and Leah the very best of luck.

Darren Counihan, Jessie O Leary, Angelo Presta, Leah Hallihan and Ella Shanahan entered in the Ballad Group Section of the competition and again, another performance that couldn’t be faulted. They were very unlucky to lose out on the night. The standard in all competitions this year was very high and everyone gave 100% on the night.

Harty Cup Final;

We would like to wish St Colman’s the very best of luck this Saturday in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, as they take on Our Lady’s from Templemore in the Harty Cup Final. Throw in is at 2pm and if the game is in anyway similar to the Harty campaign to date, it will be a match not to be missed. We would urge all our members to support Niall O Leary, Jamie O Leary, Barry Murphy, John Paul Murphy, Mark Spillane and St Colman’s panel on Saturday.

U10 Indoor Parish League;

Our U10’s have been training for four weeks now and their season started this week with an indoor parish league, with the lads competing in challenge matches against each other in the Community Centre. Being the first night, tensions were high as this is a new concept and the first time the club has embarked on this type of league but the night was a great success. Well done to Donal O Callaghan and his team of mentors, a great initiative.

U12 Panel;

Our U12’s, under the guidance of Declan Spillane, are training twice weekly in Leahy’s Field. If your son is interested in playing with our U12 panel and was born in 2005/2006, why not bring him along on a Monday evening at 7 for a couple of introduction sessions.

U14 Hurlers;

Well done to Pat O Sullivan, John Lenehan and the U14 Hurling panel who travelled to Douglas on Sunday last, to par-take in their first challenge match of the season. The boys had a great game and played extremely well. They were then treated to Mc Donald’s before they headed to the Cork hurling game in Pairc Ui Rinn, where they saw our own Colm Spillane coming out victorious over the Clare opposition.

Lotto;

We are back this week with a lotto jackpot of €8,600 and the €2 tickets can be purchased in Murphy’s Vehicle Repairs, Sharon’s Hair Design, Fitzgerald Butchers Fermoy, Mc Donnell’s Coolagown, The Abbey Tavern and from the usual ticket sellers and promoters. Congratulations to this week’s lucky dip winners; Brenda Collins, Eoin Fitzgerald, James Moroney, Mary Murphy, Bertie O Sullivan, Mary Harty, Nell O Sullivan and Nancy Spillane.

Sponsor;

We would like to sincerely thank Riordan’s Supervalu for their ongoing sponsorship of the Juvenile Club. Michael and Martha have been and continue to be great supporters of the club. We would ask everyone, in turn, to support local and support Riordan’s Supervalu.
