Thanks as always for all your great support and who knows you could be the lucky winner of €2, 000 next week.

Club focused on Championship preparations.

Surprisingly there were no games played by the club in either hurling or football this last weekend. However, all are beavering away in championship preparation mode. The intermediate hurlers had several training sessions and efforts to fix an Abernethy Cup game with Castlemartyr have stretched out to June. They are currently leading the Division two league and have a game arranged with Eire Óg. All focus is on a return to form and the championship game with Fr O Neills at the end of June.

The footballers had the weekend off after their progress to the semi-final of the East Cork JAFC recently. They are second in the league with two games left against Castlemartyr and Glanmire and have an outstanding chance of making this final but the remaining games must be played.

Our Junior B Hurlers are working well and played Fermoy in a challenge game in St Colman’s field last Wednesday. Both sides were short players due to exams and work, etc, nevertheless it was a good workout. They play Youghal in a preliminary round on a date to be arranged.

“Evening at the Races” on Sunday 4th June.

Castlelyons Community Centre Committee are almost ready for the “Evening at the Races” in the Centre with the first race at 8.30 pm on Sunday 4th June 2017 This is an evening with a difference as they will have horse racing footage from various courses including jump and flat races up on the big screen. The aim is to match Galway, Punchestown, or Killarney as there will be race cards, the craic of the tote for fun, prizes for each Race, pints on the hoof and a mighty sing song arranged for later in the night. Hopefully, this will help make a few bob for the upkeep of the Centre as it is so busy on a daily and nightly basis either in the hall and kitchen, meeting rooms, “Tuck Shop”, dressing rooms, Gymnasium or the GAA Club Bar

Anthony O Regan and his committee wish to thank the many sponsors, especially our Main sponsors Rathbarry Stud and the many people and Companies who have sponsored Races and placed adds in the Race Card and bought horses as the finishing touches are now being put to a unique set up. All in all, this should be a cracking evening so do support and come along and keep that focal point of the Parish alive.

Scoil Náisiúnta Chaisleáin Uí Liatháin 1967 – 2017.

There was a special celebration day to mark the 50th Anniversary of Castlelyons National School on Sunday last. A special Mass was celebrated by Fr Gerard Coleman, P.P. and then it was to the school where all were treated to refreshments, viewing of the Role Books and a rendition of various songs by the pupils. This was a memorable and enjoyable day appreciated by both past and present pupils, their teachers and previous members of Parents Associations down the years. There have been so many fine teachers over the years and this writer remembers one group of staff circa 1984/1990 during involvement with the juvenile club and family attending the school. They were the late Mr. Roddy, Principal, Ms. Marie Crowley, Ms. Patricia Foughy, Ms. Margaret Cashman, Miss Collins and Miss Lynch. All were so accommodating and were outstanding teachers. Present Principal Mr. Nelius De Róiste and his staff have continued to deliver and enhance on these high standards and, of course, have really developed the facilities down the years as prefabs have come and gone and the school is now a massive building, bright and spacious with parking facilities and much more. On behalf of Castlelyons GAA we wish to congratulate the school and its staff for a wonderful 50 years of education and wishing all every success as it heads for the centenary.

Uí Mac Coille take on UCC in Senior Hurling Championship.

All roads lead to Sarsfields Grounds in Riverstown on Sunday evening 4.6.17 at 7.30 pm where Imokilly take on UCC in the Senior Hurling Championship with Ken Healy down as the referee. UCC had a massive victory over Carrigdhoun in the first round on a score of 4-22 to 0-11 and are strong favourites not alone to advance but to take this year’s title. Imokilly had a flattering 2-26 to 0-12 win over Bishopstown in the first round as they raked on the scores near the end. Nevertheless, this game has potential to be the proverbial “cracker” as both sides met last year and there is keen interest from our club. Colm Barry, Tom Carroll and Aidan O Sullivan and Niall O Leary are part of the Imokilly panel and some of the lads may be featuring. Jack Barry, Colm and Anthony Spillane are part of the UCC panel and it is assumed that all three will be on the team. Bí ann gan teip.

Castlelyons Junior Camogie Team.
