Castlelyons GAA Notes WE 5.3.18 2018-03-07 18:10:00

Under 21 Footballers in Championship action.

Our Under 21 Footballers are at home to Glenbower Rovers in the Championship on Wednesday 7th March at 8pm. While our lads have very little football played they have a lot of physical work done over the last month and a lot of them got game time in a junior league game versus Dungourney recently. We have very few on the age but have a lot of up and coming men like Niall, Jamie and Keith O Leary, Barry Murphy, David Morrison, Peter Roche, Conor McCarthy and many others. The Barry brothers Donal and Colm have taken charge of the Under 21’s this year and we wish them the best as they had a great year in 2017 particularly in the hurling and most of the lads are underage again this year.

Junior Footballers play Midleton in League.

We are at home to Midleton on Friday 9th March at 8pm in Division 2 of the East Cork League. We have already played one game suffering defeat to Dungourney as we were a bit lethargic which maybe could be attributed to heavy training. Ronan Fenton a committed player is our Captain for 2018 and no doubt Ronan, Donal O Leary, manager, and his selectors are working on this and after showing good form with the camán recently we are hoping for a good result.

Intermediate hurlers league game cancelled.

Castlelyons back in Premier and after a good away result in drawing to Charleville were blanked out by snow for Sunday’s home game to Ballinhassig. This game will now be arranged later, so the lads are not out again until Sunday the 18th March when they travel away to take on Blarney.

Weekly Lotto Results of the 5.3.18.

The numbers drawn were 4, 15, 24 and 28. There was no winner. There were eight "Lucky Dip" winners of €20 each as follows: - Michelle Fenton, Nora Hurley, Joe Roche, Martin Dorgan, Ann Cotter, Helen Mackessey, Kevin Daly and RNMC

The Jackpot is now €6,400 and our next draw is Monday 12th March at 9.30 pm in the Abbey Tavern. Thanks for your support and please remind your friends that they can play our Lotto Online or purchase from the usual sources.

Trip to Tipp for Cork hurlers on Sunday.

Cork hurlers travel Thurles on Sunday for the refixed and last league game versus Tipperary. This should be the proverbial cracker as there is a lot at stake for both in either advancement to the quarter finals or in Cork’s case a relegation playoff. This is part of a double header as Tipperary play Louth in the football beforehand. Admission is €15 with children U16 free so let’s support the team and we wish them and our own man Colm Spillane the best in a tough assignment.

All Ireland Post Primary Camogie Final now set for Sunday 11th March.

Loreto Secondary School, Fermoy play Coláiste Naomh Cormac, Kilcormac in Offaly on Sunday 11th March in the O Neills All -Ireland Post-Primary Schools Senior D Final at a venue and time to be announced. Best of luck to Loreto College and to our own Castlelyons girls on the panel; Grainne McCarthy (captain), Billie Shanahan, Lucy McNulty, Ava Hallihan, Avril Beirne and Niamh Colman. Safe journey to all and hopefully a victorious outcome.
