Castlelyons GAA Notes WE 7.5.18 2018-05-10 12:25:00

Junior Footballers play Cloyne in Championship Saturday evening.

We take on Cloyne in the first round of the East Cork JFC this Saturday evening in Dungourney at 7pm. Our football form to date this year is not great as we have very little played except for the three league games in Division Two of the East Cork League, losing two and drawing one. Cloyne on the other have played five games and won three in Division One of the League and as such will be starting favourites. However, we weren’t too far away with the last too years and we have a nice blend of youth and experience as the likes of Shane Maroney and Barry Murphy have played with the Cork Development Squads recently and we have the Carrol brothers, the O Learys, the Spillanes and Shane and Aidan O Sullivan, Cian O Leary and others.

We played Fr O Neill’s in a League game at home on Thursday evening and drew with them in a good game 2-8 to 1-11. We have a challenge game early week leading, so we should be in reasonable form. Best of luck to the lads and if we give the commitment to the management outfit Donal O Leary, Maurice Carroll and James Moroney we have the potential to create a surprise. Castlelyons Abú

Weekly Lotto of the 7.5.18.

We would ask all patrons and especially those in the Adult, Juvenile and Camogie Clubs to support our Club Lotto. A novel way to assist the Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin

Having announced the extension of sponsorship last week with our main Sponsor Mr Brian O Sullivan, Company CEO of ZEUS Packaging Group we were also presented with two new sets of jerseys on the night. One of the sets in the traditional green and gold colours and the new away set in brightly coloured purple and one may ask why that colour but there is a reason and you can play your part in contributing to a most deserving charity.

Mr O Sullivan, a Castlelyons man himself was hopeful that the sponsorship arrangement would be of mutual benefit as has entered into a charity agreement recently with two major institutions and we can help. Castlelyons farmers and, of course those in the area are being asked to buy purple silage wrap and net and help support Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and The National Children’s Research Centre this silage season. Farmers buying silage wrap for this season’s silage will be able to order the Purple packaging to show their support with the brightly colored wraps demonstrating farmer solidarity with the work being carried out in both institutions. Thanks again for considering your support.

A Massive weekend of entertainment.

We had sun, sessions and satisfaction all over the place this last weekend. Ed Sheeran came to the revamped Páirc Uí Chaoimh and delivered three super concerts demonstrating what one man and his guitar can do. When he banged out the Galway girl the who place exploded and I think the only time this can be repeated is when Cork bring back the McCarthy Cup and Franks gives us a rendition of the Banks down in the Park. No doubt about it the Park is some stadium and some asset as it brought over €60 million to the city and environs this last weekend with a season of Sundays and more concerts to come. Well done folks. Locally we had the golf on Friday evening and a well-supported concert with local artists in the church on Sunday night. All in all, a wonderful weekend of entertainment and choice.

Race Night in the Community Centre – June Bank Holiday Weekend

The Castlelyons Community Centre Committee are holding a Race Night in the Centre during the June Bank Holiday weekend. When we need to hold a meeting – where do we go but to the Centre as it is the hub of the Parish down the years. One of the few rural GAA clubs with a bar nowadays we have held some mighty celebratory nights of winning clubs and teams as it is always back to the Centre for refreshments. Our Bar is now refurbished and a success story once more as the Bar Committee are doing a wonder job. All parish committees including Community Council, Barrymore Players and many from outside the parish hold their meetings at the Centre. As befits all such Centres there is a requirement for funding on an ongoing and sustained basis to ensure the upkeep of the place. Accordingly, the Community Centre Committee would really appreciate your support for the Race night which can be done through sponsoring a Race, an Add on the Race Card or buying a horse. We will have more information next week but no doubt you are preparing to help and keep our Centre going. Thanks again.
