Big Day for Damien Ahern Fund

The camogie year is coming to an end for all groups and it was marked with a very special joint fundraising blitz between the Camogie Club and the Juvenile GAA Club last Sunday. This blitz was in aid of the Damian Ahern Fund and was very well supported by all of the 28 teams that participated on the day.

We are indebted to everyone who helped out on the day from the camogie and juvenile club in making the day such an enjoyable success from stewarding, parking, coaches, the Order of Malta, the Kent’s for use of the adjacent field for parking, managers, referees, tea tent, tuck shop, everyone who helped set up and indeed tidy up the pitches and tea tent, all parents, guardians and relatives who came along with baking and who supported the fundraising initiative, the sound system, the M.C’s and everyone who helped both leading up to and during the day. We would especially like to thank all the travelling teams who came to Castlelyons last Sunday and very generously supported the day – the Camogie & GAA associations would be proud to see such a gathering.

The fine weather made the day a great success with hurling and camogie blitz’s for U8’s, U10’s, U14’s, minor and junior girl teams. Everyone enjoyed the day and the cuppa tea and chat. We would like to thank all of our kind sponsors who came on board for this special day and who supported us in everything we asked for.

Aghada Blitz 15Last Saturday our U13 girls competed in a camogie blitz held at the Aghada sports grounds. The competition consisted of four teams with every team playing each other.  Our first game was against Killeagh, followed by Aghada and finally against Carrigtwohill. Castlelyons triumphed in all three games coming from behind in two of the games. This group of girls have continued to grow in confidence and skill as the year has progressed with each and every girl playing extremely well on the day. We would like to thank Aghada Camogie Club for the kind invitation and thanks to the all teams for the sporting matches. Special thanks to the women for the tea and coffee’s at the interval.

Sunday the 11th October saw our U14 team competing in a friendly blitz in aid of the Damian Aherne fund. This blitz was held in Castlelyons with competing teams from Bride Rovers and Erins Own. We would like to thank both clubs for supporting this cause and making the day a memorable occasion.

Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for Friday the 16th of October at 8:30 pm in the Community Centre with everyone welcome. Our AGM is scheduled for Wednesday the 11th November with a time to be confirmed.
