Intermediate Notes WE 27.10.15 2015-10-30 00:09:00

Congrats to Colm Spillane.

Kieran Kingston has made a Dave Fitz move and named his hurling panel for the coming year early.

Colm Spillane in U21 action v Waterford in 2014It is mighty to see Colm Spillane back in the scene again after a lot of injury last year.  There seems to be a message here that Kingston is going for strong hard men this year.

Indeed, he could well do considering two more of our men Colm Barry and Anthony Spillane.  Colm Barry had outstanding season for Uí Mac Coille and took some of the current Cork forwards in his stride.  Anthony Spillane is a corner forward of mighty ability too.  However, it is early days yet no doubt the net will be cast wider and we wish Cork and Colm Spillane the best.

Scór na Óg Uí Mac Coille.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael is a community based volunteer organisation promoting Gaelic Games, Culture and ensuring lifelong participation.  Many people in Castlelyons have done tremendous work in the Community and CLCG. What better way to celebrate our history and culture than participating in Scór. Scór is commencing this year with the Scór na nÓg Competition (after National Schools and up to 17 years).

Thanks to Orla Hallihan who is trying to put a Quiz team together and finding it hard to get a singer.  Jimmy Morrisson is under serious pressure at present and is going to assist with his family if at all possible in the music.  So what about a solo singer to represent parish the Camogie or Juvenile Club if you can assist please contact Orla Hallihan or Kieran McGann.

The Scór na nÓg Finals will be held at Lisgoold Hall on Sunday night the 8th November at 6 pm.

Juvenile GAA AGM

This is scheduled for Saturday the 14th November and we hope to see a big crowd in attendance. Time to be decided.

CLCG Coiste Chontae Chorcaí – Clubs Draw.

Thanks to all who have supported this initiative as the first two Draws are taking part in Páirc Uí Rinn on this Friday evening.  We have more or less maintained our numbers.  Your support is really valued and the prizes are huge.  Best of luck and we did have a few winners in 2014/15.  Indeed, we have a nice few from outside the County joining this year but sure all true Rebels are in so here’s hoping for a win.  As Gay said in the Late Late Show all those years ago “Role it there Colette” so Friday night Frank will role the dice.

Congrats to our U12 Footballers – League Champions.

Congrats to our U12 Footballers and their mentors who won the Rebel Og East C Grade Football League on Saturday morning last.

The lads defeated Courcey Rovers on a score 4-3 to 3-4 - well done lads what a great end to the season.

Both teams had been waiting for this one for a while as the league has been finished since August. Indeed, both teams had only lost once during this league we knew it would be a close affair. Castlelyons made the better start and were leading by 4 points coming up to the break only for Courceys to score a goal just before half time.

Declan Spillane a former county medal football winner with his son DaraThis set up a nervy and tough second half. Our lads really knew we were in a battle when Courceys really upped their game after the break and only for some great defending and huge effort from all the lads we would have been in big trouble. While we did get hit for two goals we got another couple ourselves to win on a scoreline of 4-03 to 3-04.  Well done lads, it was a great win even if we were unlucky a few times this year.

Panel: -  David Jones, Colm McCarthy, Peter Greaney, Ian Ryan, Ian O'Sullivan, Michael O'Sullivan, Marc Callinan, James Cullinane (Capt), Cees Kouwenberg, Jody Whelan, Michael Griffin, Alex Murphy, Evan Lenehan, Oscar Hallihan, Leon Shanahan and Dara Spillane.

After the victory the team then travelled to our clubs main sponsor Riordan's Supervalu in Fermoy to show off our plaque for the league title. The lads then collected  for the 2nd day, the Kit for Kids gear which Supervalu sponsored and which was kindly presented by Colm Donnellan of Riordan's Supervalu. It was a great day for everyone and especially for this bunch of lads and their coaches.  Thanks so much to Riordan's Supervalu for their kind sponsorship.
