Castlelyons Club Notes WE 16.1.17 2017-01-19 12:01:00

Colm helps Cork win Munster Senior League Game.

Cork 7-22 Limerick 1-19.

The Cork hurlers had a mighty win over Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds. This Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior League is a January competition but think about it folks and tell me when did Cork put up a score of seven goals and twenty-two points against a Munster county in senior hurling before. As we said last week things are looking good. Our man Colm Spillane played corner back and had a strong game.

Cork now play Waterford in Mallow on Wednesday night and our man Colm Spillane has moved in to full back for this game. This will be a big test as Cork’s next task now is to show consistency and while they will be tested they should take it on the night. A big crowd is expected in Mallow.

Cork Footballers defeated by Kerry.

Our county footballers bowed of the Munster senior league after losing to Kerry last Sunday in Mallow. Both teams had a huge number of new players on view and we wish to congratulate Padraig De Roiste, Fermoy on getting game time with the footballers in this league. He had a season with Fermoy in 2017. Padraig is a son of Nelius De Roiste our National School Principal in Castlelyons and is show great potential in both hurling and football.

Saint Colman’s on the bus for a Harty Cup Semi Final.

St Colman’s are on the bus for a Harty Cup Semi Final as they had an expected convincing win over Christian Brothers College last Wednesday. We had three Castlelyons men on the team and all did very well namely Jamie O Leary at full back, Niall O Leary at centre back and Barry Murphy at full forward who banged in 1-3. We also had John Paul Murphy, Seamus Moroney, Mark Spillane, James Kearney, and David Morrison on the panel.

They now await the winners of Árdscoil Rís, Limerick v Midleton CBS (a replay) and will be out in the semi-final on Saturday, 28th January. So, Colman’s have a sometime for good preparation and we wish them the best.

Scór Sinsir and Scór na bPaisti.

The Scór Sinsir final takes place in Lisgoold on Sunday 5th February, 2017 and Scór na bPaistí Quarter Finals will be held again in Lisgoold on early February. To date, there is no cultural officer for the club and those interested should contact the officers of the Adult and Juvenile Clubs. Hopefully, all the 1916-2016 celebrations in Castlelyons will have energised and inculcated people with culture and tradition and we will have strong representation in these great events this year.
