Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club Notes: 09.03.2016

 U10 – Match Report;

Our U10 hurlers had a great first outing of the year last Saturday at the Owen Geary memorial Indoor Hurling Blitz in Ballyduff. After losing their opening game to Ballyduff 3-1, where the boys struggled with the pace of the indoor game, the boys raised their game beating first Cois Bride and then a fancied St Oliver side, to set up a rematch with Ballyduff in the final. In the final, we got off to the worst possible start conceding a soft goal in the first minute and then Ballyduff scored 2 more in quick succession to leave us 3 -0 down in the opening minutes.

However the boys then showed their character and rose to the occasion. Paddy Dooley and David Hegarty shored up the defence, Olan Lenehan and Jack Cremin took hold of the game and fed great ball into Arron Goggin who struck for goal, followed quickly by another great goal from Olan. Ballyduff got one more before Jack Cremin unleashed a rocket to the bottom corner. With the game in its final few minutes, Castlelyons lined up for shots on the Ballyduff goal with Cathal O'Riordan, Ruari Counihan, Keelan Buckley all going close but time ran out with Ballyduff holding on for a 4 -3 victory. There were also great performance from Sean O'Callaghan and Kevin Barry on the day.

Well done to all the boys who played and thanks to Ballyduff for their hospitality on the day and great mornings hurling.

U11/U12 training now taking place on Monday evening from 7.00-8.00 in Leahy’s Field. Training is also on Saturday mornings, time to be confirmed by text, again in Leahy’s Field.

U16 Update;

Our U16 footballers got their season off to a winning start with a good win over Brian Dillons at Tank Field Mayfield on Sunday morning last.  New captain David Morrison, operating at centre forward, was in flying form and had goaled twice in the opening ten minutes.  Our backs were well on top, where Conor McCarthy and Declan Geary were particularly good, and restricted Brian Dillons to two points in the first half. Further goals from Shane Cotter and Gavin O'Neill along with points from Shane Flynn and Richard Morrison had us in a very commanding position at half time.

For the second half our selectors took the opportunity to look at players in different positions which broke our momentum a bit, however another goal from Shane Flynn and points from Shane Cotter, Stephen Casey, David Morrison and Richard Morrison saw us run out easy winners on a scoreline of 5 goals and 6 points to 3 points to Brian Dillons. Our next assignment will be a home game to Shamrocks in Castlelyons on Sunday next at 2pm.

The Panel the played against Brian Dillons was Eoin O'Neill, Peter Hegarty, Declan Geary, Jack Kenny, Conor McCarthy, Peter Roche, Shane Flynn, Richard Morrison, David Morrison, Stephen Casey, Gavin O'Neill, Shane Cotter and Declan Morrison.
