Intermediate Hurlers head for Charleville for first League Game.

Well the League set up for 2018 has been published by the County Board. Castlelyons are up in Premier Intermediate this year head for Charleville to take on the home side in the first Premier League game fixed for the 25^th February 2018. This is the first of tough games in the Premier which is a week earlier this year. While every game in this League will be tough going it is excellent preparation for the championship as we face Youghal who, no doubt, will be anxious to make a fast return to senior ranks again. However, we commence the East Cork Junior 2 Football League with a home game versus Midleton. Again, we are moving up due to winning Division 3 of the Football League Last year. So, after a few weeks training already with a good base of physical preparation we should be ready for these games. All to play for lads.

Point to Point Races in Knockanard on Sunday 11.2.16

All roads lead to Knockanard Point to Point Races on Sunday 11.2.18. Castlelyons GAA are hosting a Refreshment Tent. There is a good bit of work in this and a “paper pick” at the end. We need help for a few hours on the day and we would appreciate if some volunteers gave their names to our Secretary, Michael Barrett.

This year Knockanard share racing with Punchestown, Askeaton and Oldtown all up the country and it is expected that there will be a strong number of races and possibly a divide. So, for a great day its Race Day in Knockanard.

UCD 1-15 UCC 0-13

Jack Barry our man who was in goalie and Vice-Captain for UCC but were beaten by were between by a strong UCD in the Fitzgibbon Cup. UCC had a 10-point victory over CIT the week beforehand but were without the injured Tom Devine, Mark Coleman and Shane Kingston for the UCD game. The absence of this inter-county trio was a serious just too much again side UCD who were well-drilled and organised.

UCD are up at home to CIT next week and if they win they’ll top Group A and enjoy a home quarter-final. If CIT win, it will come down to score difference between the three teams to see which two advances to the knockout phase. As it stands, UCD has a score difference of +5, as do UCC, with CIT on -10. So UCC and Jack Barry have a still to advance to the quarter of the Fitzgibbon so best of luck to Jack Barry.

Great start for Cork Hurlers in the League.

Cork hurlers lit up the Park with an excellent performance against Kilkenny in the Park last Saturday night. Cork took all league points in a 1-24 to 0-24 victory. Playing under new Manager John Meyler and new LED lighting system the Rebels showed last years good form and even a little more. We saw the introduction of a lot of new talent from last years U21 team blending in and well up for battle. Our own man Colm Spillane done very well and scored his first point from the corner back position for Cork. Cork are away versus Wexford which is next Sunday 3^rd February at 2.00pm which is another big test. Hopefully, the Rebel supporters will travel because another win would be great and help the confidence of these young players.

Imokilly knock off the cobwebs.

County SHC Champions Imokilly knocked off the cobwebs and resumed action in Ballynoe last Saturday evening with a challenge game versus a Cork U21 selection. Both sides were down players, but it was a great workout and Imokilly had a 0-17 to 0-13 victory. Tom Carroll and Aidan O Sullivan from our club figured for Imokilly. Tom got a slight hamstring and had to come off but not serious. Well done to referee Brian Murphy and, of course, St Catherines, who made one of their pitches available despite the atrocious weather.
