Castlelyons GAA Club Notes WE 5.2.18 2018-02-08 09:24:00

Season starts this Sunday with footballers against Midleton at home.

Our Junior Footballers play Midleton at home in the first East Cork Junior 2 Football League game at home to Midleton on this Friday evening at 7.30 pm. We are moving up due a bit in class due to winning Division 3 last year. However, after a few weeks training albeit only physical preparation and no skills due to the bad weather we should still be in reasonable condition for this game. Best of luck lads.

Result of our Weekly Lotto of the 5.2.18.

The numbers drawn were 1, 8, 19 and 21 There was no winner. There were eight "Lucky Dip" winners of €20 each as follows: - Tina Walsh, Carroll Collins, Skully & Corish, Liz O Brien, Dave Hoare, Jim Tobin, Maureen Spillane and Paddy O Donovan

The Jackpot is now €5, 600 and our next draw is Monday 12 February at 9.30 pm in the Abbey Tavern. Thanks for your support and please remind your friends that they can play our Lotto Online or purchase from the usual sources.

New Treasurer.

Well we are delighted to have got a Treasurer for the new few years as Chairman Con Lawlor announced at the monthly meeting that Donal Barry had agreed to take up the position. Donal have previously been an officer with the Club and we wish him the best in an era when both development and financial guile is required.

Storm Damage.

Storms seem to be on the increase in recent years but this winter we have a few and there was a lot of damage done to our pitch and surrounds as the goalposts, nettings and trees took a battering. John Healy and his field committee are doing great work in restoring the calm, the playing surface and all possible repairs. However, some of the most essential jobs are coming in at a high cost and the playing season is fast approaching. The insurance cover is minimal so if there are any patrons out there able to assist in any way don’t hesitate to get in touch with our club chairman or secretary.

Point to Point Races in Knockanard on Sunday 11.2.16

All roads lead to Knockanard Point to Point Races on Sunday 11.2.18. Castlelyons GAA are hosting a Refreshment Tent. At the monthly meeting Chairman Con Lawlor made a special appeal for assistance as is a good bit of work in this with a “paper pick” at the end. We need help for a few hours on the day and we would appreciate if some volunteers gave their names to our Secretary, Michael Barrett.

This year Knockanard share racing with Punchestown, Askeaton and Oldtown all up the country and it is expected that there will be a strong number of races and possibly a divide. So, for a great day its Race Day in Knockanard.

Votes of Sympathy.

Our club wishes to extend sincere sympathy to the O Brien family on the recent death of Ms Maureen O Brien, Glenarousk. Predeceased by her husband the late Pad O Brien for some years Maureen passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at Cork University Hospital recently. Maureen was a stalwart of our Club for many a year. A former Treasurer she was one of the founder members of the Hospitality Tent at Knockanard and helped with it annually ensuring we turned over a few valuable bobs for our club. She worked at Fermoy Hospital and was always a devoted family person helpful, kind and caring. She did have the privilege of witnessing the success of her son Padraig as he won County Junior and Intermediate hurling medals with Castlelyons in the 90’s. Her Granddaughter Ellie brought a new joy to her life, and she helped develop Ellie’s step dancing talent as she took her to classes in Lisgoold and all about to Feiseanna. Maureen did everything she could for the community and so much more for her family. We extend our sincere sympathy to her son Padraig and all the family.

Our Club also wishes to extend sincere sympathy to the Daly, McMurtry, Murphy, Tobin, Looby and Murphy (Waterpark) families in their recent bereavements. Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a nainmeacha go Léir.
