Club Notes of 12.11.18 and 5.11.18 2018-11-15 10:27:00

Castlelyons GAA AGM down for Friday 30th November 2018 at 8pm.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 30th November 2018 at 8pm in the Club Bar to review the past year and make plans for 2019. We had a reasonable year at Premier Intermediate Hurling level just missing out in the League play-offs and we had a good win over Youghal on the 28.4.18 and then a five month wait for our next round on the 14.9.18 versus Courcey Rovers. We drew that day 1-14 to 0-17 but a week later we bowed out on a 0-14 to 1-15 in a tame defeat. Our Junior hurlers suffered from numbers at times and did not make an impression this year. Our footballers have potential but surely, we could give a bit more time to the game if we are waiting five months between championship hurling matches. Our Under 21 hurlers and footballers likewise done well but did not make any finals this year.

We are at a crossroads and picking a good route for 2019 will demand a bit of work. The great days of senior hurling and heading for county semi-finals in the Park are now in the annals of our history in Castlelyons. However, we have a panel of hurlers capable of taking us on some big days again. These lads who have enjoyed a lot of success at club underage, county and national level and can more than hold their own at PIHC level. If we are to achieve we must push on and more importantly must be given every opportunity to do so. This must happen soon as time nor tide waits for no man.

Generally, the Club is doing well, and membership is strong as the number of families in the Parish is increasing. However, our Chairman Con Lawlor has made a big rallying call for new members at executive level as there are positions to be filled in administration, finance, public relations, team managements. Let’s hope that there will be good attendance and discussion on at our AGM.

Any motions for inclusion in the meeting and nominations for any position with the club need to be submitted in writing by Friday 16th November 2018 to Michael Barrett, Knock, Fermoy, Co. Cork or secretary.castlelyons.cork@gaa.ie
