Niall O Leary on Cork senior hurling panel.

Well Niall O Leary finally got a run with the Cork senior hurling team in the Co-op Superstores Munster senior hurling league. They played a strong Waterford outfit in Mallow last Wednesday. However, Waterford fought well in the second half to win 1-24 to 1-18. Niall put in a great hour at corner back. Once again Imokilly and Fr O Neills star Declan Dalton scored 0-9 (0-7 frees) and looked very strong on the ball too. The programme in Mallow was free whereas it was €2.00 in Ennis last Saturday and in each game, Cork fielded totally difference to the published one. Are Cork picking up the Ger Loughnane style of fielding changed outfits or is there some other story.

Niall O Leary and Jack Barry were in action again on Sunday. This time with UCC versus Cork in the Canon O Brien Cup as Cork picked up the spoils on a score Cork 1-24 to 1-23. Both lads done well.

Steward’s Training Course

Cork County Board will be holding a Course for voluntary stewards soon. This is to assist with our games in your Club, Páirc Uí Chaoimh and various venues. The purpose is to ensure that there is a quality level of stewarding at all venues. Stewards may also be called occasionally to work at some of our major Munster venues. It is important to have qualified personnel in your club to run major events in accordance with Croke Park directives and clubs are expected to make people available for this training which is provided free. If you have previously stewarded for CLCG please avail of this course as retraining is vital (3 Years). Instruction is also given on the role of Supervisory Stewards. Stewards will be trained and accredited by the GAA National Health & Safety Committee. Those interested should contact the Secretary Castlelyons GAA. Nothing beats being part of the match day action.

Conditions: -

  • Over 18 years of age (male or female).

  • Available to steward at weekends (average of 10 - 12 events annually)

  • Fit and Active

  • Friendly, courteous, enthusiastic.
