Scór – East Cork.

Congrats to our man Shane Murphy who won the Amhrán Aonar in the East Cork Scór last Sunday night with a mighty rendition of Raglan Road. There was massive competition in the section with nine great singers so well-done Shane who now goes on to represent us in the County Finals.

Scór na bPaistí will be held this weekend in Lisgoold and we will have boys and girls represent the hurling, football and camogie clubs. A special thanks to our teachers Stephanie Barrett, Kilmagner N.S. and Aisling Ó Tuama, Castlelyons N.S for their great work in promoting Scór. Incidentally, this is the jubilee year of Scór founded back in 1969 by Fermoy man the late Derry Gown whose son Diarmuid Gowen is now Cisteoir with Coiste CLCG Chontae Chorcaí.

UCC book Fitzgibbon Cup Quarter Final Slot.

Congrats to Niall O Leary and Jack Barry who had a good game in this latest victory for UCC in the Fitzgibbon Cup. They defeated UCD on a score 2-21 to 1-13 at the Marydyke leading all the way. God to see nine of the starting fifteen were from Cork and all good hurlers. On this occasion our own Jack Barry did not play as he had a slight hammy so no doubt, he will be back on song shortly. He was replaced in goal by Shane Hurley of St Finbarrs.

Intermediate hurlers continue training.

Our hurlers are continuing the slog of winter training as they put the pressure of the soft ground in the legs which is good and hopefully, they will get in some hurling too. That great coach Justin McCarthy is quoted as saying there is such a thing as physical fitness and hurling fitness. You must combine both. You get fellows who can hurl all day, but they can’t hurl at pace which is very important. So, no doubt we will be getting in a few challenge games to sharpen the hurling brain soon and don’t forget the football either.

We are away to Bride Rovers on the week end of the 9th and 10th February in East Cork junior football league. As I said last week hard to get better than a local in a derby to test physicality and moral courage especially with the big ball. So, lads our club paid fines for not playing all our league games last year so ar aghaid líbh.

Cork Hurlers hoping to make amends in the Park on Sunday.

Well Cork hurlers travelled to Nowlan Park last Sunday and were tamed by the Cats in an unusually light-hearted affair. We saw the introduction of a lot of new talent with more of the older folk coming back. Delighted to see Declan Dalton Fr O Neills having a good go and he deserves more game time during the league as he showed promise on Sunday. Our own man Colm Spillane was not on the panel and no doubt should make a comeback for next Sundays game in the Park against Wexford. Now that Wexford and Cork have both suffered first round defeats all gladiators will be needed to pull Cork over the line in this one and none better than Spillane. This is part of a double header in the Park as Cork and Kildare commence proceedings in the football league.

Monthly Meeting.

Our monthly meeting takes place on Monday 4th February at 8pm. All members are asked to attend, please.
