Castlelyons GAA Notes WE 23.9.19. 2019-09-25 11:00:00

Castlelyons play Youghal in East Cork Junior B Hurling Championship

Our Junior B hurlers face Youghal in Killeagh at 8.15pm on Wednesday night in this semi-final. Youghal are a strong outfit as they had a four-point win over Bride Rovers in the quarter final with top men in Brendan Coleman at centre back, Brendan Ring, Dion O Donoghue and Kenneth Walsh. However, our lads although down a few since the last game have done a lot of work and will give their best. Aghada await the winners in the final which may be on at the weekend as they defeated Killeagh in the other semi-final last Sunday.

Minor Hurlers out in Rebel Óg County Division 2 Championship.

Castlelyons minor hurlers are out in the county on Sunday 6th October as they are down to play versus. No doubt Willie Casey, Pat O Neill, Niall O Leary and Alan Fenton are sharpening the touch with the lads for this game. Killavullen were defeated in the North Cork Final by Kilara Óg by the narrowest of margins in a cracking game on a score of 1-12 to 0-13. Kilara Óg are an amalgamation of Araglen and Kilworth who are loaded with strong hurlers so that makes Killavullen a good side too. The venue, time or referee is not decided to date so we will have more next week but make Sunday 6.10.19 a date for your diary.

Imokilly defeat Sarsfields in Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Final.

Imokilly defeated Sarsfield 1-17 to 0-10 in Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday night last. This game was part of a double header in which Glen Rovers defeated Newtownshandrum in the opener. By 6.45pm the rain began to bate down and no doubt many of the small crowd hit for the fireside. Fergal Condon and his management outfit had our lads well motivated for the Sars challenge which was very strong early on but fizzled out in the second half of a disappointing game. Our men Colm Barry and Anthony Spillane done well. Colm dominated at full back while Anthony although not on the scoreboard worked hard all through.

Overall this was a very impressive outing for the Candy Stripes as Declan Dalton put 1-10 on the board with many of the lads showing up well too. The next game is the county semi-final versus St Finbarrs which is provisionally listed for the weekend of the 5th/6th October. However, St Finbarrs have several dual players and are down to play Nemo Rangers next weekend and if they were to win, they will be looking for a two-week break which might push the game out a bit.

Castlelyons GAA Draw.

Tickets are still on sale for this fundraising draw. We have many teams involved in the business end of the championships and there is a serious outlay in repairs and pitch maintenance to cater for an array of teams both boys and girls. The draw will comprise of five euro per ticket with first prize 500 euros, second 300 euros and third 200 euros so we are looking to all members of our committees and clubs giving a handout in sales. The general involvement in and social values of the local GAA Club are invaluable to the local community and we appreciate your support as always.
