Bride Rovers on top in local derby.

Bride Rovers 0-8 Castlelyons 0-6.

Our Junior Footballers travelled to Rathcormac for a league game versus the home side on Sunday evening. Rovers started well and led 0-4 to 0-2 at the water break, with our two scores coming from Richard Morrison. The standard of football from both sides could be better particularly efforts at converting scores as Rovers did not score for the remainder of the half and Castlelyons despite loads of possession could not hit the target although they added 0-1 to leave it 0-4 to 0-3 at half time.

We started the second half in good fettle but alas no scores as we shot three wides and failed to take two goal chances.  Sure enough the Rovers made their way back to dominate for a while and lead 0-7 to 0-4 but good scores from Stephen Casey and Richard Morrison put the minimum between the teams.  However, Sheamus Buckley had the last say for the Rovers to leave it 0-8 to 0-6 at the long whistle.  Full credit to a big number of younger players who are playing this year and while junior football might be tough going if a few more of the seasoned lads returned from injury and were available we could have a reasonable team for the championship.

Panel: S Hickey, E O’Neill, C O’Neill, E Barry, J O’Leary, C Barry, C McCarthy, S Moroney, S Casey, P Roche, T Carroll, D Morrison, B O’Donovan, J Barry, R Morrison. Subs O Hallihan, I Ryan, I O’Sullivan, D Spillane, M Griffin.

Rebel Óg East Under 15 Division 3 Football.

Lee Gaels 2-4 to Castlelyons 4-8

Our Under 15 footballers hit for the Ballycannon Park, Kerry Pike on Saturday to play the local Lee Gaels combination outfit. Castlelyons decided to play with the wind in the first half as the breeze was good and steady on a nice day.  This turned out to be a good decision as the boys settled quickly and put good scores on the board to leave the half time score Lee Gaels 0-1 Castlelyons 2-5.

We knew we were in for a battle in the second half of this game as Lee Gaels had ten lads starting on the age to our five lads on the age plus the fact, they are a combined juvenile club of Dripsey and Gleann na Laoi. They certainly took on our lads with the wind to their backs as they scored 1-3 without reply to close the gap to just four points. We were now in a battle and a great contest but to their credit Castlelyons held concentration and fought their way back into the game with some great football. This was a great team victory as all the lads held their own and contributed.  Of course, there are always highlights and on one occasion when we took possession of our own kickout and worked it sublimely through the field for a cracker of a goal sure it nearly brought the house down from our few supporters.  This is great for the mentors as a score like this makes all the hard work during training worthwhile. Castlelyons Abú.  Referee: Jim McAvoy had a good game too.

Team: Shane Hallihan, Dylan Leetch, Tom O'Neill, Cathal O Riordan (Capt), Jack O'Connor, Olan Lenehan, Shane Hussey, Jack Reals, Adam Lardner, Jack Cremin, Patrick Dooley, Eoin McMurtry, Sean O'Callaghan, Ronan Ryan, Torin O Brien, Kevin Barry,

Castlelyons U11’s busy these times.

Our U11 hurlers played Killavullen recently and showed great promised in an exciting and most enjoyable outing in Páirc Ó Laoighaire.  Killavullen started well but gradually our lads fought their way back into the game.  We had a good 0-1 by Ewan McCarthy and a cracking 1-0 from Ned Condon.  We were level heading for the half time whistle but then Cathal O’Keeffe got a 1-0 for us and we lead at half time.  We started well in the second half as forwards Paddy, Padraig, Ned, Carter Callum, and Ewan did well.  But of course, the backs Dyland, Ryan, Thomas, Rowan, Jimmy, and Tommie cleared out a lot of ball while midfielders Cionnaith and Cathal linked very well too.  Ned added another goal for his hattrick.  Cionnaith found the net from long range and Cathal finished off it out for us with a good point.  Mighty hurling lads.  Keep it up.

Our Ur U11 footballers travelled to Ballyhooly on Saturday and the lads played two teams of 9 a side and had competitive and enjoyable games.  There was even a fisted point by Ryan Wallace.  Was that a Kerry touch?  Training continues Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm and thanks to the mentors.

Camogie County Under 16 B Plate Final 2020 Camogie Final

Carrigaline 4-8 Castlelyons 4-5

Our Under 16’s headed for Castle Road, Cork on Friday evening last to play Carrigaline in the delayed B Plate 2020 County Final.  We were first to score as Ciara Morrison got an early goal, but Carrigaline swiftly replied with a goal leaving it level pegging.  Scores were hard to come by as both sides defended well but before half time Carrigaline scored a second goal to put them 3 points ahead at the short whistle on a score 2-2 to 1-2. In the second half scoring resumed and Carrigaline started to pull ahead, they were leading by five points when Robyn Hickey scored a second goal for Castlelyons leaving two points between the teams. Carrigaline scored a third goal to widen the gap between the two teams. The Castlelyons girls fought back again scoring two more goals to try and close the gap. Carrigaline won the match by just three points. Castlelyons had a fantastic performance on the night with a super attitude fighting for every ball that came their way. The fact that they many of our teams have now played in Church Road the headquarters of Cork Camogie is a great experience that will stand to the girls in the future.  Well done girls and to their mentors and manager Brendan Hallihan we will have more days like this, and victory will come our way.  Castlelyons Abú.

Castlelyons were leading at half time at 0-10 points to 0-5. The second half started off strong again with Castlelyons putting up a few more scores on the board. After the final water break Kilworth got a goal and Castlelyons replied with putting more points on the board for a good victory. Tea Party & Presentation to Mary.

There was a beautiful function held in the Church Grounds, Castlelyons last Thursday for Mary Martin who turned the key in her Narnia Pre School for the final time after 40 years. We had it, all lovely sunshine, a great turnout from the local community, teachers, including present N.S. Principal Mr Nelius De Róiste, former great, Timmy McCarthy, current Cork hurler, Colm Spillane including several speakers who wished Mary well in her retirement and, of course some, presentations.  Mary made a lovely reply, and it was clear to all she enjoyed her work and time with the children.  Her daughter Deirdre spoke truly kind words on behalf of the family.  Dick O’Brien was an excellent MC and gave a blast of a song as Mary and her friend Ina O’Donovan waltzed on the sacred grounds. It was a Tea Party supreme as Cathy Drislane and the ladies supplied refreshments. Fr Gerard Coleman was a willing host as the place proved such a lovely location with the beautiful shrubs & flowers in full bloom.  Well done to all on a lovely function. Many happy days to Mary, James & family on her retirement.

Congratulations.

Congratulations to Emily Sexton, of Castlelyons Camogie Club and David Thuillier who were married on Saturday in St. Nicholas Church, Castlelyons.  We wish Emily & David happiness, health, and long life together.
