Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 15.11.21.

Castlelyons play Ballinhassig in the PIHC Semi Final in Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday 20.11.21.

After a seven week wait since our last game Castlelyons are finally out in the county semi-final of the premier intermediate hurling against Ballinhassig in Paric Uí Rinn next Saturday 20th November at 3pm. Our opponents Ballinhassig have had a dual engagement with hurling and football all along and they have reached the final of the county junior football championship with a big win over Douglas last Saturday. While they had the big ball games their training focus was the sliotar and no doubt football has helped their motivation, fitness, and physicality. There is a strong belief down Carrigdhoun country that the double is on in both football and hurling and this has pushed them into the favourites tag against us as we had little or no competitive action.

It was Thomas Eddison said that genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration. In fairness to our lads, they are an honest bunch of workers with a good attitude and have come back strong from the disappointment of losing the final to Blarney last year. We will need a few leaders to light up the place on Saturday and everyone to give it one hundred and ten per cent. Hopefully, a few niggling injuries will have cleared up and we can draw from a full panel. Best of luck to the team and management. Castlelyons Abú.

St Colmans record a comprehensive Harty win.

St Colman's, Fermoy 2-21 Blackwater Community School 0-8. 

The Castle Grounds in Lismore was home to many great hurlers including the All-Star brothers Dan and Maurice Shanahan. However, it was a very bleak spot last Friday. The Harty Cup is on the go since 1918 and has long developed into a cracking hurling competition in Munster. The Fermoy sports entrepreneur Bill O’Flynn had an excellent piece on the Evening Echo last week on the prospects of St Colman's, Christians, Midleton CBS and North Mon/AG in the Harty Cup this season. He set out the panels of all four teams and we should have cut them out as there wasn’t even a sheet programme for a big crowd of spectators. The pitch needed a cut, and it would be great to have it lined. However, there was no need to worry about in or over the line and plenty time to enquire about the players as the game was a very tame affair. In fact, there was more excitement outside the invisible line than inside as St Colmans fans had some massive singsongs and the opposition let off some bangers on the other side.

St Colmans started the first half well and made full use of a strong breeze, showery at times, blowing down from Ballyduff into the town goal. They led 1-11 to 0-1 at half time with the Blackwater Community School only score coming from a sixty-five. The second half was much the same as St Colmans dominated and ran out easy winners by 0-19 on a score of  2-15 to 0-8.

Hard to judge Colmans but Adam Walsh commanded the air in a tight backline, Dave Barry and Ben Nyhan were industrious around the middle. Jamie Magnier and Edmund Cashman came out first to the ball, turned and put over some fine points. Generally, there was no one tested. Our own Castlelyons man Colm McCarthy had little to do in goals and while our men on the subs did not get game time it will their hurling good to be involved. They are Aaron Fenton, Darragh Spillane, Mathew Rosner, Michael Griffin, Oscar Hallihan. Of course, our own star hurler Castlelyons man Anthony Spillane, now teaching in St Colmans, is part of the management outfit with Mossie Barry and Daniel Buckley. St Colmans take on St Josephs of Tulla, Co, Clare who were beaten 0-20 to 0-18 in this round by De Le Salle Waterford and the 24.11.21.  Best of luck lads.

Rebel Bounty November Draw.

The next Rebel Bounty draw is on Thursday 19.11.21 for a top prize of €20,000 and thirty other cash prizes. The draw will be streamed on Cork Facebook and cork gaa.ie. Please note it will be at the earlier time of 6.15pm. Then we have the final monthly draw on the current ticket in December on a date to be arranged with a top prize of €100,000 plus thirty other cash prizes. All in all, Castlelyons had done well to date and who knows our luck could be in for big prizes yet. Best of luck folks.

Castlelyons GAA weekly Lotto Results Monday 15.11.21. 

This week’s draw was held Monday 15.11.21 and the numbers drawn were 1, 3, 6, and 16. There was no winner, and the Jackpot is now at €17,800. The Lucky Dip winners were as follows: - Donal O’Connell, Florence Waters, John Feeney, Donal O’Callaghan, Colin Burger, Michael Barrett, Ian Barry, and Sharon Hyland.

Castlelyons Camogie Club AGM

The Camogie Club will hold their annual general meeting on Wednesday 24th November in the community centre. All are more than welcome to attend.
