U10 Hurling

Last week our U10 hurlers entertained Fermoy in a challenge game at home. This game was held in Leahy’s field and was a good exercise to help tune our boys up for the Ballyduff Blitz at the weekend. Both teams showed great skill and determination with Fermoy coming out on top with some fine scores late on in the game.

Ballyduff Blitz

On Saturday of the Bank holiday weekend our u10 hurlers travelled to the annual Ballyduff blitz where we hurled against Youghal in the first match. We played very well in the first half with Youghal just shading it. In the second half Youghal got two well taken goals and ran out worthy winners. This was a great improvement on our display from the Killeagh Blitz a month ago when we were well beaten.

U12 Hurlers defeat Douglas in League

Last Saturday with the sun shining our U12 hurlers welcomed Douglas to Castlelyons for a league game.

Having had a couple of tough days at this grade our lads were determined to try to get a win at some stage, and for a change we made a great start with a few early scores. This set the tone for the rest of our performance. With Colm rock solid in goal and our defence of Michael, William, Declan, Oscar, Peter, and Leon we held Douglas scoreless for the first half. At Midfield Stephen and Dara kept things moving in towards our forwards. Up front Evan, Declan, Eoghan, Gavin and Ian made life difficult for their backs. We improved again in the second halve and despite the hot conditions our lads were able to stay on top, later the introduction of Ian and Michael helped keep us going until the end.

Hopefully this win will stand to us in some of the challenging games we have to come at U12.

Next up is a home game against St Colman’s U11 this coming weekend.

U14 Football

On Friday last our U14 footballers took on Grenagh in another league encounter. The game was played at home. We could only field 9 players for most of the first half as some of our team played in the U13 soccer final, and Grenagh took full advantage of this. The score at half time was Grenagh 2-5, Castlelyons 0-2. We had a full complement of players for the second half scoring 1-5 in this half to Grenagh’s 2-5.

Panel: - Conor McCarthy, Eoin O Neill, Gavin O Neill, Shane Cotter, David Morrison, Richard Morrison, Seamus Morrison, Declan Morrison, James Kearney, Jack Kenny, Peter Roche, Peter Hegarty, Ian Gunther Quinn and Leon Doocey.
