Fine win for U16 Hurlers in A Hurling League

St Colmans 0-6 Castlelyons 2-10

Last Monday night our U16 Hurlers played St. Colmans (amalgamation of Cloyne and Russell Rovers) in the 3rd round of the U16 A Grade Hurling League.  The game was played away in Shanagarry.

After all the fine weather recently Monday night was freezing cold with a strong north wind blowing across the pitch. Despite some Castlelyons players carrying injuries and a few players feeling under the weather we put in a battling performance over the hour and deservedly came away with the victory.

Early exchanges were even as the swirling wind made life difficult for both sets of forwards. For most of the first half there was very little between the teams as  St Colmans , responding to their large group of supporters, tried to take the game to Castlelyons. In this half Castlelyons had a goal from David Morrison and points from Barry Murphy (3) , Pearse Varner (1) and Seamus Moroney (1) to lead at half time on the scoreline Castlelyons 1-5 , Shanagarry 0-4.

Second half saw the temperature plummet and the wind strengthen which wasn't conducive to good hurling but both teams put in a huge work-rate in this half. Even though St Colmans were physically a bigger side Castlelyons displayed the better hurling.

In this half Castlelyons had a goal from Barry Murphy and points from Mark Spillane (2) , Michael Buckley (2) and Seamus Morrison (1)  to win a tough encounter on the scoreline St. Colmans 0-6, Castlelyons 2-10. Well done our lads and their Management team -  great result.
