Busy week for Juveniles

U16 Rebel Og Eastern A Grade Hurling League

Castlelyons 2-12, Erins Own 3-10

Last Tuesday night our U16 Hurlers, returning to action after 6 weeks exam break,  played Erin's Own in the 4th round of the U16 A Grade Hurling League at home in Castlelyons

Castlelyons who were missing a few players due to holidays, exams and injuries elected to play against the strong breeze in the first half. Castlelyons lads played some good hurling in this half but registered a number of narrow wides which did not help their cause. Erin's Own who are a fine hurling team scored 2 goals and 4 points in the first half to 4 points for Castlelyons. Castlelyons scores came from Barry Murphy (2), James Kearney (1), Mark Spillane (1)

In the Second half Castlelyons took the initiative and within 10 minutes Castlelyons were level. From this point on it was toe to toe hurling as each team had periods of dominance  With 12 minutes remaining Erin's were 4 points ahead but for the last 10 minutes Castlelyons lads piled on the pressure and were desperately unlucky not to win this one. A few crucial decisions went against out lads and in the end they had to settle for a 1 point defeat.

Jack Kenny scored two mighty goals which were a feature of the second half were two fine goals scored by. Our points in the second half came from Barry Murphy (3), Mark Spillane (2), Pearse Varner (1) and Seamus Moroney (1) . Well done to U13 player Gavin O Neill who came on at half time for the injured John Paul Murphy in goals and did a great job.

U10's travel to Moycarkey Borris - Trip to Tipp

Last Saturday our U10's travelled to the hurling stronghold of Moycarkey Borris GAA Club in Tipperary to take part in the U10 Paddy Cooney Hurling Tournament. On the day we travelled with 14 boys and their parents. In our 1st game we played Na Piarsaigh of County Limerick and we lost a close game. Our 2nd game then followed up and pitted us against Kilmorac Killoughney of County Offaly where we were not strong enough.

Under 10 Castlelyons Hurlers in Moycarkey Borris last SundayWe then played Rathdowney Errill of County Laois, probably the strongest team in the tournament, and fell to a heavy defeat. Our 4th and last game had us playing Ballingarry of County Tipperary in the D final where we lost in a very tight game.

A big thanks to Moycarkey Borris GAA who put on a great spread of food for the boys and the parents. Everyone had a great day with all the boys getting nice engraved medals on the day.
