Castlelyons Juvenile Notes 25.02.16 2016-02-26 08:15:00

Cork Minor Hurling Panel – 2016.

It was with great pride last week, the club learned that three of our minor players have made the Cork Minor Hurling Panel for 2016. Jamie and Niall O Leary along with Keith O Leary, have all been named on the Cork Minor Panel for the coming year. The boys are a credit to their dedicated parents and of course, their coaches too. Their hard work and commitment over the past number of years, has paid off and the end result, is something, most of us can only dream of! All three have been training and playing with Castlelyons since a young age and are great mentors for our younger players to look up to. They also were part of the recently defeated Colman’s Harty Cup team. We look forward to following their progress throughout the season and wish them and their team mates the best of luck for 2016.

Rebel Og U13 – 2016.

On Friday last, boys from our U13 team headed to Carrigtwohill for the Rebel Og GDA coaching session. Over 60  boys participated in Carrigtwohill with over 800 boys county wide and the day was deemed a huge success. This coaching programme is, as it says on the tin, a programme to help players to maintain and upgrade their training skills. Everyone has the opportunity to develop throughout his process and there will be further sessions throughout the year.

This is not a “trial based” activity and so it can only benefit all those who take part. The boys were put through their paces in both hurling and football during the morning and all the feedback has been very positive.

The Juvenile Club were delighted with the uptake for the event when Evan Lenehan, Michael Griffin, Dara Spillane, Michael O Sullivan, Colm Mc Carthy and Ian O Sullivan all went along and took part for the morning. With match season about to kick off in the coming weeks, we look forward to seeing the benefit of the extra training.

Anyone who didn’t make Fridays session can attend future meetings, please give your details to either John Mc Carthy or Lorna Murphy to make sure your name is included going forward.

U9/U10 Update;

U9/10 Training is in full swing every Saturday morning 10-11am with good numbers despite the inclement weather. We have received the schedule of U9 /10 2016 blitzes from Rebel Og GAA and we have an exciting year ahead with our first Football blitz on the 19th March for both U9s and U10s. Also on the 04th March our U10 hurlers have been invited to participate in the Ballyduff Indoor Hurling Blitz on Saturday 04th March. This is a great event that the boys really enjoy. One of our new initiatives for 2016 is the development of a Skills Passport for the boys so that the parents can see the improvements the boys make as the year progresses. A full schedule of blitzes along with other plans for the year will be emailed to all parents over the coming week.
