Tickets for Rebel Bounty

Tickets for the Rebel Bounty draw are now on sale. The Rebel Bounty Draw is becoming a key fundraiser for clubs like ourselves. The funding from this draw contributed €6,500 to the new ball stop nets behind the goals, €2000 towards the new gym, and €6000 towards the €100,000 development loan we have. There is over €500,000 in prize money, 12 draws in the year and with over 30 prizes within each draw. We have now sold over 70 tickets which means that for EVERY ticket now sold all the money will go directly back to Castlelyons GAA. If you wish to buy a ticket you can contact any member of the GAA committee or visit gaacork.ie/rebelsbounty and make sure to put Castlelyons as your club! Closing Date to purchase tickets is February 24^th at 6pm so do not delay and make sure you have your ticket bought early.

Tent at the Races

Knockanard Point to Points will be going ahead on Sunday February the 13^th and Castlelyons GAA will have a tent present where you can stop by for all your refreshments. Soup and sandwiches will be available as well as tea and coffee. Please stop by if you’re feeling peckish, need shelter from the elements or just want a chat. All money raised will be going towards the development fund so any help at all would be fantastic.

Membership Due

Club membership is due again. We are using the ‘Foireann.ie’ website again this year. Foireann allows you to register as a member of Castlelyons GAA club online and to choose the membership fee you wish to pay. Fees are as follows: Adult nonplayer €50, Adult OAP/Social Member €20, Adult Player €100, Student Player €80. You can still pay the old-fashioned way as well. Just contact one of the club officers or club registrar Peter Murphy on 0879950075. New members are always welcome and encouraged so if you are new to the parish or have been here for years yet have an interest in our games, please do contact us to become a member.

One Club

Early discussions are being held within the club to see if developing a ‘One Club’ structure in the parish would be of benefit to the three sporting organisations (The GAA, LGFA and Camogie associations) in the community. The idea of ‘One Club’ is to integrate the 3 organisations into a single managing executive to streamline decision making, fundraising, coaching/development and management of the overall structures involved in running the clubs. Each club would retain their own committees to organise the playing of their games as they see fit. We are interested in looking into this idea more over the next few months and educating ourselves on the pros and cons of such a move. Such a move would be a fundamental change in the organisation at a local level so more research will need to be done on all sides before any decision will be made. Any decision about the ‘One Club’ would have to be decided by all members so it is vital that you have your membership paid if you want to have your voice heard or be a part of the process.

Lotto Jackpot €20,000

Numbers drawn on 31/01/22 were 11,20,31 and 31. There was no winner of the Jackpot. Lucky dip winners were Eoin O’Leary, Gavin O’Neill, Padraig Geary, Florence Waters, Declan Spillane, Breda Kennedy, Fitzgerald Family and Ian Barry. Next week’s draw is on Monday 7th Feb at 8pm in the Community Centre.

Numbers drawn on 7/02/22 were 1,21,26 and 30. There was no winner of the Jackpot. Consolation prizes went to Sarah Hegarty, Sean Whelan, Kay Murphy, John Drislane, Bryan Carroll, Tim&Mary O’Sullivan, Alex Henley and Emily Delaney. Next week’s Jackpot is a very tidy €20,000. Make sure to buy your ticket to be in with a chance to win.

Cork Back to Winning Ways

The Cork senior Hurlers got their league campaign off to a winning start against Clare with an impressive victory in Páirc Uí Caoimh on Saturday 5^th February. Our man Niall O’Leary was solid as a rock in corner back and did us proud in a great overall team performance.

Well done as well to the Cork minor camogie team who defeated Galway by two points on Sunday 6^th February in their opening game in the All-Ireland series. It was a low scoring encounter with no side giving an inch in a tough game played up in Galway. After an hour Cork were able to grind out a hard fought victory on a score line of 0-8 to 0-6. Castlelyons were represented by Ciara Morrison and Leah Hallihan. Well done girls and best of luck in your next game against Dublin this coming weekend.

Cross Country Championships Come to Castlelyons

St Nicholas’ Athletics club are hosting the National Intermediate, Masters, Juvenile B and Juvenile Relay Cross Country Championships this year on Sunday 13^th February. This is a great sporting event to come to the village and it will sure to be a fantastic occasion with many different races taking place throughout the day.

Votes of Sympathy

Castlelyons GAA would like to express our sympathy to the Crowley family, Main Street, Castlelyons (and White’s Cross) on the passing of John, to the Morrison family, Kilclare, Conna on the passing of Dick and to the Barry Family, Rathcormac on the passing of Mick. All three men were great GAA servants of their respective clubs. May they rest in peace.
