Castlelyons Men on UCC League Panel

Colm and Anthony Spillane both played for UCC, with Jack Barry also on the panel as sub goalie in last Wednesdays Independent.ie Higher Level Education GAA Division 1 Hurling League Final versus IT Carlow in Waterford last Wednesday evening. This was a titanic struggle as UCC lead by a single point at the break but finally lost out by three points on the score 0-16 to 0-13.

Colm Spillane did well at full back and in particular made one great block on the full forward when there was a goal on for IT Carlow.  Anto Spillane did well in the full forward line and figured in the scoring where the talented Cork player Alan Cadogan scored four points from play, one mighty one from out in the sideline. But UCC did hit eight wides in the second half.  Jack Barry did not get game time as the Keith Hogan, Clare U21 Keeper and All Ireland medal winner stayed the hour between the posts for UCC.

This is IT Carlow’s second year taking this title as current Kilkenny selector and fitness coach since 2005, Michael Dempsey, and former Kilkenny legend DJ Delaney are doing great work in Carlow. However, the Fitzgibbon Cup is the big one and UCC will still be one of the favourites and well done to our own Castlelyons lads as it’s great to feature at this level hurling.

UCC Team: -  Keith Hogan, Conor Gleeson, Colm Spillane, Michael Breen, Gavin O’Brien, Cormac Murphy, Dan Morrissey, Jamie Barron, Cormac Walsh, Alan Cadagon, John Power, Rob O’Shea, Anthony Spillane, DJ Foran, Barry Lawton.

Subs: -  Jack Barry, Shane Roche, Tadgh Burke, Eoghan Finn, Eoghan Gough, Rickard Cahalane, Philip Kelleher, Mark O’Brien, Niall McCarty, Shane O’Donnell and Cian Walsh.

Scores: -   B Lawton 0-5 (4fs); A Cadogan 0-4; R O’Shea 0-2 (1f); A Spillane & N McCarthy 0-1 each.

Monthly Meeting on Monday 7th December at 8 pm

Our first monthly meeting after a very good AGM will be held on Mon day 7.12.15 at 8 pm.

Congrats to the Morrisson Family

Congrats to the Morrisson family as Seamus Morrisson was recently crowned Munster Champion in Solo Dancing and ten year old brother Óisin was 4th in the U10 Solo Dancing.  Both now qualify for the World Championships which will be held in Glasgow next year.

The lads play for Castlelyons and Seamus has represented the Club in Scór as they are top class musicians also.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh Development

The Cork Athletic Grounds was first opened in 1903 and since then Gaelic Games routinely drew thousands to the Grounds as it received many face-lifts including a rebuild back in 1973.  However, the latest and long overdue revamp will put Cork up there with the best and is now developing at haste.

The new Stadium will have a 45,000 capacity.  It will also have new player and referee changing rooms, two covered stands, corporate boxes, medical rooms, a gym, restaurant and a museum and, of course a full sized all weather pitch alongside the stadium.  It will be an invaluable asset for the city, county and region and will be complete in 2017 and, no doubt, Cork will be up there as leaders in the game again.  Present Cork CLCG Cathaoirleach, our neighbor and Fánaithe na Bríde man, Ger Lane, is heading up the Steering Committee and deserves all possible support for this massive undertaking.

Stolen Bicycles

Two antique bicycles beautifully restored by Tidy Towns members and the CES workers were recently stolen from there display points in the village.  This has caused huge disappointment as they were part of many features of Castlelyons that provoked such positive comments and reports during the summer and particularly during the State Funeral.  Any assistance on their removal or whereabouts would be appreciated and you can contact the Gardaí or any Tidy Towns member.  Also, don’t forget our Text Alert System – are you joined? – if you wish to join please contact any of our Community council members.
