We play Inniscarra in PIHC 2016

County Hurling Championship Draws

A strong number of clubs have entered second intermediate teams in the IHC 2016 and are facing the coming season with great confidence.  A premier U21 hurling championship was introduced at the County Convention last Sunday. There is also a move to hold a premier junior hurling championship which could lead to the demise of the once fiercely contested divisional championships.  No doubt there will be much debate on this proposal which came from a Duhallow club and whether it is the best model going forward for Cork hurling.

The draw for the restructured PIHC 2016 last Sunday saw Castlelyons pitted against Inniscarra in the first round and depending how we get on we will play either Courcey Rovers or Valley Rovers in Round 2.

This is a tough draw as Inniscarra are a strong side capable of a very high standard on their day.  In 2015 they defeated Kilworth in the relegation play off on an impressive score of 2-16 to 1-13 and they have undertaken a major overhaul of the club since as they now have even a second intermediate team entered in the IHC and are drawn against Aghabullogue.  However, if our men are injury free and fully up for it we can give anyone a game so we are looking forward to the summer already.

Scór na bPaistí – Uí Mac Coille 2015/16.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael on promoting Scór at all levels has helped to play an important role on the revival of our culture and heritage. This time we have the Scór Na bPaistí 2015/16 Competition in Uí Mac Coille and we are asking all Schools/Clubs in the Division to take part. 2016 is special in so many ways and particularly in Castlelyons so hopefully we will have a good turnout from the schools of the Parish and further details can be obtained from Ms Lorna Murphy, secretary juvenile club.

There are 10 events/disciplines in Scór for 2015/16 and you as a Club can take part in any one or all. These disciplines cover all aspects of Irish culture, Figure/Céilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Recitation/Storytelling, Instrumental Music, Novelty Act, Ballad Group, Set Dancing, Table Quiz, Solo Dancing and Solo Music

The Quarter Finals are now on the following dates and times: -

  • Friday 5th February 2016 at 7 pm.
  • Saturday 6th February, 2016 at 2 pm
  • Saturday 6th February 2016 at 7 pm.
  • Sunday 7th February 2016 at 1 p.m.
  • All quarter finals in Lisgoold Community Hall.
  • The Club/Schools must be available to compete on ANY DATE & TIME but will be given early notice prior to the quarter finals.

Colleges Hurling

We continue to have good representation in the Harty Cup with Jamie, Niall and Keith O Leary, Barry and John Paul Murphy all members of the St Colmans panel.  The Draw for the Quarter finals will be made this Thursday night with the games down for Wednesday 13th January, 2106. So no doubt Colmans are training between the showers.

Darren Lawlor - a member of the DCU panelAt third level in the Independent.IE Fitzgibbon Cup we have Spillane brothers Colm, Anto and Jack Barry all members of the UCC panel while Jack’s brother Colm Barry is a member of the Mary I (Limerick) panel. We also have Darragh Lawlor with the DCU panel and Alan Fenton with the CIT outfit.

We have six players involved in panels across all four groups which should really help our own intermediate panel as it is great to have lads playing at such a high level so what about some ‘strength and conditioning’  for other lads not involved in the early season.  All games commence on 28th of January.

1966 Junior A Hurling Team

This week we feature our own Junior A Hurlers who defeated Midleton in the first round of the championship played in Riverstown back in 1966.  Castlelyons were just promoted from Junior B the year before. The photograph contains many lads who have made massive contributions to the club and its development over the years.
