Intermediate Notes W.E. 21.12.2015

A short Review of 2015.
Our Intermediate hurlers had great win in the PIHC win over Kanturk in the first round but then we made our exit in the quarter final to Ballinhassig.
This game was three months later and we had some injuries and lads away. Thanks to all the lads and to Dave Hoare and his backroom team for a great effort.
Our Junior B team made it to the quarter final but we were beaten by a strong Sarsfields outfit. Again these lads, with Donal Barry, Manager and his backroom team put in a great effort during the year.
It is always nice to have some success and thanks and well done to our U21 lads who had a great year, winning the football and almost getting over the line in the hurling. The footballers were title winners in East Cork Final with a victory Castlelgoold.
We got to the East Cork U21 hurling final and in a played in Rathcormac against the âHill which went to extra time we came out the wrong side in a mighty game of hurling. Thanks to Mick Spillane, Maurice Carroll, Anthony O Regan and David Cremin for all their work with the team.
We were victorious in the Rebel Ãg Eastern Minor Hurling final versus Cobh and although beaten in the County Final it was still a great year for our minors. We were short in numbers but we played as a club and thanks here to Jimmy O Leary, Dave Hegarty, Shane Hickey and Ger McCarthy as they did a lot of hard work with the team.
In general we have a lot of talent available and there is a process in place now to set up new managers for our various teams. Getting into contention is vital but itâs not beyond the players and managements to do so. MÃle buÃochas for 2015 and hereâs to 2016.
Puc Fada, St Stephens Day at 11 am on St Stephens Day
Castlelyons Juvenile Club is running the Puc Fada Competition as usual on St Stephenâs Day. Please note the starting time is 11 am from the Community Centre. The course, the same as last year, is unusual but interesting as one has to negotiate a number of crossroads with left hand swings to get back on line.
Hopefully the weather will pick up and the hurling will be good from young and old. Now this year there is an added extension as teams change from Puc Fada to Long Puck in Páirc an tâAthair Peadar OâLaoghaire.
There will be refreshments will be served in the Club Bar both prior and during the events. The cost is just â¬20 per team of four and all proceeds are for charity. So hereâs to a good turn out and a great day.
Cork GAA Year Book.
The Cork GAA Year book is on sale now and the numbers are limited. However, our secretary, Michael Barrett has some for sale at just â¬8 each.
Of course, there are many GAA items you can buy the family or your children for Christmas and ten fabulous items itemised on âTHE42â with many available from www.gaastore.com.
Fred Sheedy, Kilworth, RIP
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Peg, Brian, Annette, Claire and Freddy and the extended Sheedy family, including his brother Gerry, Chris and family who reside in Castlelyons on the sad loss of Fred. He was a true Gael, a member of the Army who served overseas in the Congo and Cyprus and an outstanding hurler for Kilworth, Avondhu and Cork. He was a selector on the last three Cork senior hurling teams that won All Irelands in 99, 04 and 05 and this was with different three different Managers. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam DÃlis.
