Intermediate Notes WE 11.1.16. 2016-01-13 17:46:00

Congratulations to our lads who made the St Colmans All Star hurling team, 2016

Declan Varner - had a great year with St Colmans's and Castlelyons in 2015Congratulations to our Castlelyons lads who were selected on St Colmans All Stars hurling team for 2015.

Declan Varner (full back), Niall O Leary (wing back), Jamie O Leary (centre forward) and James Kearney (corner forward) all made the team. Well done lads.

Intermediate Team gear up for 2016

Mick Spillane and his management team are preparing for the new season and have held a players meeting already.

John McCarthy - New Selector with Castlelyons for 2016They will commence training on this Tuesday evening.   We have our first league game away to Carrigaline on 28th February with weekly league games thereafter.

Mick has added the former St Catherines man, John McCarthy, to his selectors.  He is a man of hurling experience and was a good half back as he played on St Catherines 1989 East Cork Junior ‘B’ Championship winning team.  John is also over the Castlelyons under 14 teams this year.

Lads in action with UCC and Cork

We had Jack Barry(goalie), Colm Spillane(full back) and Anthony Spillane (corner forward) all playing with UCC versus Cork in the Canon Michael O Brien Cup on Saturday while Colm Barry was a sub with the county team. The result was Cork 2-12 UCC 0-13 but Jack kept a clean slate and the lads done well too.

Then on Sunday Colm Barry lined out at full back for Cork in the Munster Senior Hurling league game versus Kerry in Mallow.  The result in that game was Cork 1-20 Kerry 0-18 and Colm got the full game.

Uí Mac Coille Senior Hurlers 2016

Uí Mac Coille senior hurlers are getting down business a little earlier this year as there is a very stiff first round in Championship 2016 versus UCC.  The students have an enormous advantage of having played in the League and the Fitzgibbon Cup.  Their panel is laden with top players including several inter county stars and this makes the clash so tough but then again exciting.

Fergal Condon and his selectors Derek Barrett, Jimmy Smiddy, Sean Harnedy and Kieran McGann have already had discussions and as there are a number of players with both Cork Seniors and Minors they have prepared an extended panel.  There are a number of challenge games arranged with the first on versus Sarsfields on the 8th February and then an outing to Thurles Sarsfields before the Tipp/Cork League game so there are opportunities to lay down a marker.

Scór Sinsir Uí Mac Coille in Lisgoold on Sunday 31st January at 7.30 pm

We would appreciate if some of our more gifted entertainers would consider taking part in Scór Sinsir Uí Mac Coille, on this historic year, 2016.  Last day for entry is 22nd January, 2016 and while we have a ballad group and a possible Quiz team it would be great to have a solo singer, story teller or indeed a dancer.  Scór Sinsir takes place in Lisgoold Hall on Sunday, 31st January, 2016 at 7.30 pm.  Please contact Kieran McGann 0867773100, if interested.

Suggestions on dealing with Flooding

Castlelyons GAA Club wishes to express empathy and solidarity with the families and businesses that have been affected by the serious flooding for nearly a month now. Well done to the various agencies and volunteers who have been working so hard for those affected.  People who had to leave their homes are anxious and distressed and, hopefully, they will find peace and resolve in the coming weeks

At a local level Castlelyons Community Council would like submissions / observations from people affected. The aim would be to collate and submit as a parish an inclusive list of the areas affected and possible remedies where feasible to minimise the effects in the future. Please forward details to admin@castlelyonsparish.com before 28th Jan 2016.

 Sympathy

The Club wishes to express their deepest sympathy with the Fenton, Mullins and Barry families on their recent bereavements. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha go léir.
