Senior Hurlers in action in first round of Championship on Saturday evening in Blarney.
We play Bishopstown in Blarney this Saturday 2nd August at 7.30pm in the first round of the championship. We had a quiet league campaign losing five games and winning four. This was mainly due to injuries and players not available. However, there was an opportunity for some younger players to get games and they done well especially towards the end as we held our position in division three. Saturday evening opponents Bishopstown were playing in a division lower than us and they lost five games and won four. This included a two-point win over St Catherines and a heavy defeat by Kilworth. Despite their mediocre form Bishopstown are favourites with the Bookies to win out the Senior A championship even ahead of teams like Bride Rovers and Killeagh so our lads need to be in good form for Saturday. Your support appreciated. Castlelyons Abú.
Special Meeting of Castlelyons GAA Club on Monday 11.8.25 at 8pm.
The Club is holding a monthly and special meeting on Monday 11.8.25 at 8pm. There are some very important matters t be discussed on forthcoming development and finance. It would be appreciated if all club members could attend, please.
Special Meeting of Castlelyons Clubs on Friday 15th August at 8pm.
Our club has a proud tradition and are now competing well in Senior Adult, Juvenile, Camogie and Ladies Football level. As you are aware the Clubs partnered with us in an new ambitious development project that should benefit the whole parish for generations to come.
Development since 2022 to date.
We have purchased land, developed a second pitch with a stand, dugouts, fencing, quality ball stop nettings and an electronic scoreboard. There is a new well installed and water tanks to facilitate a sprinkler system for both our pitches which is now operational. The old pitch, Páirc Ó Laoighaire, is upgraded with new fencing, ball stop netting, a sprinkling system and an electronic scoreboard.
There is a one-kilometre walkway laid out in tarmacadam out on a scenic route around our property with seating along the way, a Carpark, and an internal one-way roadway partially tarmacadamed with entry via village and exit onto Abbey Lane. There is a new Tea Shop set up between both pitches, and the Gym is renovated with some excellent gear installed.
Upcoming Development.
It is hoped to develop a Synthetic Pitch, 40 metres by 80 metres, with lighting, fencing and a hurling wall. This will be constructed on the Abbeylands side with planning permission and grants are being arranged.
Toilets at the back of the new Stand will be constructed shortly as there as planning is applied for four ladies’ toilets, an accessible toilet and a gent’s toilets. There will be a store for pitch equipment there also.
Substantial Grants are being arranged for these latest developments and hopefully will be confirmed shortly. While all costings to date have worked out exceptionally well and indeed, these latest developments should do so too some finance will be required to address the outstanding balance.
Accordingly, a meeting will be held in the Community Centre on Friday 15th August at 8pm, to explain all relevant details to the various club members of the Adult, Juvenile, Camogie, Lady’s Football, the Friends of Dean & Padraig clubs and it would be appreciated if as many as possible could attend, please.
East Cork Junior C Football Championship.
Cobh 0-14 Castlelyons 2-9.
After our exploits in the county championship, it was back to the divisional championship as we took on Cobh away in Páirc Uí Chonaill. The was Cobh’s second team as they are now fielding three teams and nice to see their pitch in great order with new fencing, dugouts and netting. As some of our hurling panel are injured a few of the football lads were held for next Saturday’s hurling game. It was great to see our lads give a very spirited display and playing well as a team. It was a tough game as both teams traded points early on. Jack Cremin, Richard Morrison, Matthew Rosner all scored while Stephen Hickey our goalie planted a few frees. Our backs set up well and with Conor McCarthy, Cathal Sheehan and Matthew Rosner doing well as we forced Cobh to shoot from far out as we led 0-7 to 0-4 at half time.
In the second half Cobh applied serious pressure and scored four unanswered points to lead for the first time. Brian Spillane was introduced and made his presence felt with a great pass to Richard Morrison who levelled for us and then Shane O’Flynn latched on to a turnover by Cathal Sheehan to put us ahead again. However, Cobh drew level and went ahead by a point with thirteen minutes to go. Stephen Griffey, Eoin McLaughlin and Shaun Leneghan did some great work to keep us in the game while Dylan Leetch and Ronan Ryan, both minors, were getting on top at midfield. Shane O’Flynn fed Dylan Leetch a great pass who turned his man and sent the goalie the wrong way as he planted a beauty of a goal. A short time later Cathal Sheehan caused a great turnover, and Conor McCarthy tore up field as Brian Spillane finished off the move with a goal. Eoin McLoughlin our anchorman at the back was off the field for a while due to injury and he was missed. Cobh came into the game again as they scored a few points. It took a double save by Hickey to keep out a goal as we came to the hooter winners by two points. Well done to the team and management on a good result. Our next game is at home to Carrignabhfear on the Saturday 23rd August at 6.30pm

Rebel Óg East Division Under 14 Division 2 Hurling League
Castlelyons 4-16 St Colmans 0-15
Our Under 14 came had their las home hurling league game and gave a strong team performance. A robust defensive shift put in by Dylan, Tadhg, Malik, Ryan and Robbie, limited St Colmans to shooting for points from distance and the occasional free. Josh Kinnane in goal calmly dealt with any balls that landed short and cleared his lines when needed. The first half was hard fought. Castlelyons took a bit to settle, but, once the midfield duo of Ned Condon and Alex O’Brien, and Cionnaith Cotter at centre forward, settled into the game the scores started to flow. Two goals from Ned, one a brilliant solo run ending with a driving shot across the goalie to the far side. The score was 2-6 to 0-6 at half time.
By agreement a water break was taken in the second half, and the third quarter proved to be the most competitive. Robert Griffin, Alex Murphy and Paul Ajayi, for St Colmans, worked hard to pull their team into the match. Our backs held firm, and our wing forwards, Christopher O’Sullivan and Jimmy O’Riordan plus full forwards John Moloney and Cathal Henley upped their work rate to match their opponents. Castlelyons won that final quarter 0-7 to 0-6, with John getting a nice point from a lovely pass from Cionnaith.
After the water break, there were a few quick changes. John and Cathal dropped back to the backline, with Tadhg and Robbie getting a well-earned break. Tom and Liam came into the forwards, and their freshness started to pull the St Colmans defence around. A quick brace of goals from Ned, and nice point from Cionnaith on the left, finished a good evening’s work from the lads.
Panel: Josh Kinnane, Dylan Barrett, Tadhg Hickey, Ryan Wallace, Malik Abdelrazik, Robbie Wallace, Ned Condon, Alex O’Brien, Christopher O’Sullivan, Cionnaith Cotter, Jimmy O’Riordan, Cathal Henley, John Moloney, Tom Barry
Rebel Óg East Under 12 Hurling Group Three.
Nemo Rangers 3-8 Castlelyons 2-6
Our Under 12 hurlers travelled Trabeg on Thursday evening last to play the home team Nemo Rangers and had a good win in a hard-fought game. We started the game well, with Tom Barry and Sean Ekechukwu getting brilliant goals in the first half and led by five points at halftime. Nemo came out more determined in the second half and started to dominant around the middle. They got some lovely scores and deserved their victory. However, all our lads tried hard during the game and never gave up. We were missing some through holidays and injury and no doubt if we keep up the good work, we will be a force to be reckoned with again. This was our third game in Phase Two, and we are top of the table with Bride Rovers but with a game more played. Great progress lads.

Passage 3-3 Castlelyons 5-7
A busy few days for the boys as they went to Passage on Saturday to take on the locals. This is a very good Passage team, but our lads came away with a great win. It was level at halftime and our boys played brilliantly in the second half working the ball well together. Dara McCarthy back from holidays with another hattrick, Sean Ekechukwu with a rocket of a shot and Tom Barry got the goals. We got some lovely points from Luke Dolan, Robbie Wallace and Cian O’Donovan during the game and all fifteen players tried hard to help get the victory. That was our first win in Phase Two after moving up a grade, so well-done boys, keep up the good work.
Under 12 Panel: Bobby Hosford, Robbie Milward, Liam Cashman, Luke Dolan, Jack Cronin, Tom Barry, Robbie Wallace, Fionn O’Neill, Rian Fitzgerald (holidays), Liam Martin, Callaghan McCarthy, Cian O’Donovan, Diarmuid O’hUallacháin, Mason White, Charlie White, Dara McCarthy, Darren Buckley, Flynn Murphy, Eoghan McCarthy.
New position for former Castlelyons player.
There was a huge crowd in Fermoy last Saturday as a new 'Big Tesco' opened its doors, bringing around 100 jobs to the area. There were many dignitaries present at the opening and a huge crowd of shoppers. Great to meet our own former player Alex Henley who is the Operational Manager in the Stores. Alex has vast experience in the trade and is with the company a few years. Congratulations and best of luck Alex.
