Castlelyons GAA Club Annual General Meeting.
Castlelyons GAA Club AGM, the most important gathering of the year was held on Sunday last in the Community Centre. There was a reasonable attendance. Despite a return to the old system of election of officers and other matters there was little debate which was often the heartbeat of previous annual general meetings. And you got it right the biggest cheer in the room during the meeting was for Ireland scoring a last-minute winner versus Hungary in the World Cup qualifier. Our Secretary Con Lawlor, Treasurer Mick Spillane and Chairman John McCarthy addressed the meeting and gave their annual accounts of a great year both on and off the field.
Chairperson’s Report.
Chairman John McCarthy outlined how the last twelve months were very successful both on the field and in development. He thanked the senior hurling team and management for their hard work and almost taking the final of the SAHC as they were just pipped by Bride Rovers after a replay. Two great games. He congratulated the Junior footballers and management who won the County C Grade football championship. He thanked all who worked and helped the club during the year and wished them the best for 2026.
Secretary’s Report
Our secretary Con Lawlor outlined in his report that our Senior A Hurlers retained Division 3 status in the league. In the senior A hurling championship Castlelyons qualified from a very competitive group to record an outstanding victory over Blarney in the semifinal. The final versus our neighbours Bride Rovers took a replay to decide the winner as Rovers took it by just one point. Both games were excellent and sporting. Our Junior B team done well during the year and while we won no silver, we played twelve games and using 40 players with 10 debutants.
He thanked Liam Moroney and his selectors who did so much to restore adult football again in the club. The highlight, of course defeating Rochestown in the County C Final last July in Mallow. We also contested the East Cork final but were defeated by Cobh. Thirty-two players togged out for the footballers, and all got games. Liam Moroney and his management team were also involved in the Under 21 football but were defeated by Cobh in East Cork. Our own U21 hurlers playing at C Grade this year due to numbers and young players defeated Bride Rovers second team and await the East Cork final date with Cobh. He mentioned the great work of the Juvenile Club, Camogie Club and the LGFA who were all going well. He thanked all including his fellow officers and said he was standing down as Secretary at the AGM.
Treasurer’s Report.
Our treasurer Mick Spillane gave an account of the finance, and it was excellent considering the heavy outlays on teams and development during the year. He thanked those involved in the Annual Walkathon which yielded substantial funding for the development.
The treasurer outlined that the contribution scheme is now heading for year four of five. The importance of this scheme cannot be underestimated and thanks everyone who continues to contribute and he asked all to keep it up. The next development phase of constructing a synthetic pitch and hurling wall have commenced. The construction of toilet facilities near the Stand will commence shortly. The Club lotto remains the mains source of income for day-to-day operational costs. He thanked our sellers, supporters and a very dedicated lotto committee and, also, those who sold tickets and Joined Rebel Bounty.

Ciarán McGann, selector on behalf of Michael Spillane the manager of our senior hurling team gave a full account of the year and thanked all involved including Sean Leneghan, selector, Noel Furlong Coach, Dave Dorgan Psychologist and K McSweeney Stats for a memorable year. He praised the support given by the officers of the club, the players who worked so hard and the great support over the year. He outlined that the management and selection team were standing down for 2025 and wished the club well.
