Championship Draws 2026.

Time moves on and we had the Cork Club Championship Draws for 2026 in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Tuesday evening.  We were drawn in Group 1 of the SAHC with Blarney, Ballyhea and Watergrasshill.  Our neighbours Fermoy were drawn in Group 2 with Na Piarsaigh, Erin’s Own and Killeagh.  The final Group (3) has Carrigtwohill, Inniscarra, Ballinhassig and Coursey Rovers.

From a Castlelyons perspective it will be tough going here as both Blarney and Ballyhea will be champing at the bit for us to avenge the 2025 defeats.  Watergrasshill took Bride Rovers last year n Ballynoe but did not make the knockout stage and no doubt be ready big time in 2026.  There will always be injuries, etc, but if we manage to get all the panel going, we will be in with a chance. So, best of luck lads.

Incidentally, our conquerors in 2025, Bride Rovers, now plying their trade at the top level are drawn in Group three with Midleton, St Finbarrs and Newcestown and we wish them the best of luck.

Dr. Harty Cup History Book

The first ever history of the Dr. Harty Cup, which has been contested annually since 1918, was launched on Wednesday December 10th at the Derrynaflan Theatre at the Horse and Jockey Hotel, Thurles, County Tipperary.  Sponsored by TUS, this book written by McNamee Award winner Liam Ó Donnchú runs to over 600 pages and charts the development of the competition from the beginning and details its influence on the success of hurling in participant Munster counties. Contained within its covers is a unique collection of images depicting Harty final winners from the beginning and a statistics section with all the pertinent facts relating to the competition.  The book is available in most book shops or can be purchased by calling the Munster GAA office at 061-338593 during business hours at a cost of €30 or (€30 euro plus €5 postage) and is a good Christmas present.

TUS Dr. Harty Cup Under 19 A Hurling Quarter-Finals.

The following colleges have made the quarterfinals of the 2025/2026 TUS Dr Harty Cup, and these games are down for Wednesday 7th January.  A – Thurles CBS v De La Salle Waterford.  B – Midleton CBS v Nenagh CBS.  C – St Josephs Tulla v Blackwater CS Lismore.  D – St Flannans v Our Ladys Templemore.  Tipperary teams won the Darty Cup in the last three years with Nenagh CBS, Cashel Community College and Thurles CBS.  Midleton CBS were the last Cork college to win it in 2006 and again in 2019 and they are the only Cork college in the shake up this year, so we wish them the best of luck.

Michael Cusack Awards 2026.

The Munster GAA has launched the 2026 Michael Cusack Awards, a competition for clubs in Munster to demonstrate their commitment to the promotion of Irish and Culture at club level.  A total Prize fund of 10,000 Euro is being made available, with 4 successful clubs in the province to be awarded 2,500 Euro each. Dúirt Aedín Ní Bhriain, Oifigeach Gaeilge CLG na Mumhan, ‘Agus mé ag tacú le clubanna sa chúige, mar chuid d’Fhondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha, feicim an sárobair atá ar siúl chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ar fud an Chúige. Táimid ag súil go mór le hiontrálacha na gclubanna don chomórtas seo a fheiceáil agus bronnfar duais EUR 2,500 an ceann ar na clubanna buaiteacha mar chuid de cheiliúradh Sheachtain na Gaeilge CLG na Mumhan’.

Of course, we do not have an Oifigeach Cultúrtha in our Club at present.  Castlelyons certainly has a lot of culture and heritage and there is great scope to take up the role and promote the gaeilge, some music, dance, and heritage, help with Scór or even get a culture and language sub-committee going.  Tuilleadh eolais & Foirmeacha Iarratais ar fáil ó aedin.ni.bhriain.munster@gaa.ie
