Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club Notes: 04.06.2016

U6/U7/U8;

We offer supervised coaching from U6 (born 2010) upwards.  All coaches are Garda Vetted. For children aged 6-12  all the training is based on fun games and focuses on fundamental movement skills, ABC, Agility, Balance, Coordination.

These are movement skills which are very important in the physical development of children, whether they play GAA games or not.   The club places an emphasis on fun and participation rather than winning.

Why not come along Saturday morning from 10-11 and try it out. All new players are welcome.

U9/U10;

Our U10 boys competed in the Ballyduff  Hurling Tournament last Saturday afternoon .With over 32 teams taking part from all over Cork, Waterford and Tipperary the lads topped their group to go through to the semi-finals next Saturday 04th June. Winning our opening game against Fr.Sheehy’s from Clogheen Co. Tipperary, we went on to play St. Oliver’s of Ardmore. This was a great game that went point for point before we pulled away with some late goals from Patrick Dooley, Arron Goggin and Ruairi Counihan.

Our final game was against Cappoquinn and by this stage the boys were flying and won well to top their group and get through to next week’s semi-finals. There were great performances on the day from Kevin Barry in goal with his pinpoint puck outs. Eoin McMurtry excelled in the back line, clearing ball left and right. If Kieran Kingston is still looking for a sweeper Eoin could be his man. With Jack Cremin and Olan Lenehan supplying great ball from midfield, our scorer in chief Paddy Dooley kept the scoreboard ticking over, ably assisted up front by Luke Morrison, Arron Goggin and Ruairi Counihan. Well done also to Cathal O'Riordan, Tom O'Neill, Sean O'Callaghan, Kealan Buckley ,Sean Og Maguire and David Hegarty who all played so well. Best of luck to the boys in the semi-final next week and whatever happens, it is a great achievement to get this far.

U11/U12;

At the end of a hard couple of weeks of Sciath Na Scol matches and feile’s we met a great White Church team on Friday last in the Rebel Og East Fe 12C Football League.A tough game ensued and we battled hard throughout the match. However, it was not our night and we ended on a final score of Castlelyons 3-04 White Church 6-04. We can walk away with our heads held high, knowing we never gave up. Better luck next time boys.

Training continues every week with notification by text.

U13/U14;

On Monday night last, we travelled to Cobh in the Rebel Og East Fe 13B Football League. This was a great game of football from the first blow of the whistle. We worked hard from start to finish but Cobh had a bit more skill and scoring power on the night. The night ended with the final score Cobh 8-03 Castlelyons 3-10. It’s onwards and upwards from here, well done to all the boys, parents and supporters that travelled.

U15 Super 10 Blitz;

The Rebel Og Under 15 Munster Super 10 Blitz was held last Saturday in Killeagh. Those who were there on the day saw a different type of hurling with four 10 a side Under 15 teams battling it out in a tough competition, which was held throughout clubs in Munster.

Each match consisted of 12 minutes a side in what was a fast paced, highly skilled game. This seemed to be the standard set throughout all four matches. Our lads had a great team ethos from the get go and we had a number of “Man of the Match” performances. Great credit is due to the lads, who played fantastically throughout, considering they had only one training session together before the day. Killeagh ended up over all winners on the day and go on to the Semi-finals this week and we wish them all the best.

Our team on the day was made up of Gavin O Neill, Peter Hegarty, Declan Morrison, Declan Geary, Leon Doocey, Shane Cotter, James Kearney, Jack Kenny, Richard Morrison, Colm Mc Carthy, Michael O Sullivan and Dara Spillane.

Exams;

The Juvenile Committee, Managers and Coaches would like to extend Best Wishes to all students beginning exams next week.

Cul Camp;

It’s that time of the year already – Cul Camp registrations will be taken over the coming weeks. Our camp this year will be run from Monday July 4th to Friday July 8th. It will be run for boys and girls aged 6-13.

The camps are structured so that a different aspect of the game is worked on each day and will be overseen by Dave Hegarty and Orla Hallihan.

The programme involves coaching specific skills of the game and the opportunity for children to put into practice what they have learned through small sided games. On the last day of the camp a "blitz" will be organised to provide each child with an introduction to competitive games.

The cost of the camp is €50 for the First Child, €45 for the Second and €40 for the third and subsequent children.

To avoid disappointment, book your place early. It’s a camp, not to be missed.

Lotto;

Our own lotto stands at a massive €9,600. Tickets can be purchased in Sharon’s Hair Design, Glanbia Castlelyons, Murphy’s Vehicle Repairs and from the usual ticket sellers and promoters. With a great return for your €2, can you afford not to play???

Sponsor;

SuperValu have been a fantastic sponsor to the Juvenile Club down through the years and we would urge all our players and parents to support local and support Riordan’s Supervalu.
