Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club Notes 30.06.16 2016-07-01 13:49:00

Rebel Og Cork Summer Panel;

Congratulations to Jack Kenny and James Kearney who have been selected to play with the Cork U15 Summer Hurling Panel for 2016. Congratulations also goes to Barry Murphy who has been selected for the Rebel Og U17 Hurling and Football Summer panel for 2016.

To even be considered for selection is an honour and requires a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment. The boys are a credit, not only to their club, but also their stalwart parents and coaches and as a club we are extremely proud of the boys. We wish them a fantastic summer of sport.

Cork Minor & U21’s;

Best of Luck to Anthony Spillane who plays with the Cork U21 team in Pairc Ui Rinn on Tuesday last against Limerick. Also Good luck to Niall O Leary and Barry Murphy, named on the panel for the Cork Minor match against Tipperary in Pairc Ui Rinn on Thursday night. It’s fantastic for our club to have such great guys representing us at County level and we are all very proud of them.

Cul Camp 2016;

Our Cul Camp, which starts on Monday next, has sold out. This is a tremendous result and huge credit must go to Dave Hegarty and Orla Hallihan for the promotion of it. Dave has worked tirelessly over the past number of weeks, attending all training sessions ensuring that no child misses out on the opportunity to attend this year’s camp.

The Cul Camp will run from 10.00-2.00 Monday to Friday next week, July 4th-July 8th. Please ensure that your child is prepared for all weather types and has sun cream and rain gear along with the usual lunch, hurley, helmet and shin guards.

We hope the children have a great time and are looking forward to a busy but fun week of hurling and football.

GAA Club Gear;

We currently have a stock of Crested Shorts, Long & Midi Socks available for purchase. If you would like to order any gear or have any suggestions please do not hesitate to contact Mary or Elaine.

U6’s;

Our U6’s take part in their first Football Blitz this Saturday in Killeagh. We wish the boys the best of luck and look forward to hearing all about it.

U7/U8’s;

Our U7’s & U8’s are training hard the past number of weeks and we would like to thank Redmond Walsh, Aoife Beausang and Barry Murphy for their continued help with this group.

U9/U10;

Last Saturday saw a flurry of activity on the main pitch in Castlelyons. To the untrained eye, one would have thought there was a blitz on with the amount of children on the playing field. The morning was the second assessment for our U9’s & U10’s in their Passport Skills Development programme. At the beginning of the year, each boy received his Skills Passport book. The boys are assessed every couple of months by Donal O Callaghan (coach) and a large contingent of parents and helpers.

The boys are progressing very well to date and were delighted on Saturday, when Niall and Jamie O Leary joined them to help them with their skills progression. It was great for the young boys to have Niall and Jamie on hand to encourage and guide them throughout the morning.

U11/U12;

Last Thursday, our U12s were away to Shamrocks in Ringaskiddy in our U12 hurling league. After losing to this side in football, we were under pressure to put in a big performance to get anything from this one. To a man, the lads upped their game and after a great battle we managed a well-deserved draw. We finished on a final score of Shamrocks 1-05 Castlelyons 1-05. Thanks to all the parents and supporters that travelled on the night.

 On Monday 27th we took on Lee Gaels at home in the same competition. Again the lads didn’t disappoint and put in a great team performance to come out winners on the night. The final score ended Castlelyons 4-16 Lee Gaels 2-01. Well done to all the boys who played, a great and well deserved win. Let’s keep this going for the remainder of the seaso

Training has been going well with almost all players available attending. Our thanks to Simon Barry and Colm Spillane for their help with some of these trainings.

It is hoped to have an U11 hurling game this Friday, July 1st. more info by text during week.

U18;

Our U18’s, are currently preparing for Championship and once confirmation of the date and venue are received, we will publish it on the notice board and social media. We have the full panel back training now, with exams over. We would like to wish Niall O Leary and Barry Murphy, the best of luck or Thursday night as they are named on the panel for the Cork Minor Team, as they face Tipperary in the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship Semi-Final.

Lotto;

We kick off the summer with a lotto jackpot of €2,000 and tickets can be purchased in McDonnells, Coolagown, The Abbey Tavern Castlelyons, Murphy’s Vehicle Repairs, Fitzgerald Butchers Fermoy and from the usual ticket sellers and promoters. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support with the lotto, which is a vital source of income for our club.

There was no winner of this week’s draw but well done to the lucky dip winners; Mathew Walsh, Kieran McGann, Rachel Murphy, Joan Mc Namara, Evan & Oran Sheedy, John Mc Carthy, Seanie Cotter, Fiona Curley.

Sponsor;

SuperValu have been a fantastic sponsor to the Juvenile Club down through the years and we would urge all our players and parents to support local and support Riordan’s Supervalu.
