U12 Footballers unbeaten in League

Last Thursday we entertained Carrigtwohill in th U12 Football league.  This was a big ask for our lads as Carrigtwohill have had the upper hand on us in football recently, however our lads were up for this one.  We made a great start and had 3 goals scored inside the first 15 minutes and this helped us to hold a good lead at half time.

The second half proved a tougher battle but with the lead already got the lads didn't want to let it slip and we eventually won 5-2 to 2-3.

That's four games in the U12 football league played with three great wins and one draw.

U15 A Grade Hurling League: Castlelyons 1-10 Cobh 7-9

Last Sunday Castlelyons U15 Hurlers took on Cobh in their first League game at this age group. On a sweltering hot day for hurling Castlelyons were short 5 regulars due to various reasons and without the assistance of a U12 player would not have been able to field a team. Cobh have a fine team at this age group and had a full squad on the age so this was always going to be a difficult assignment for Castlelyons lads. First half saw the trend of the game unfold as Castlelyons had some good individual performances but could not counteract the more balanced strength of the Cobh team. Nevertheless Castlelyons played some good hurling in this half and were unlucky not to register more scores. Mark Spillane scored 1 goal and 4 points and Barry Murphy also pointed in this half to leave the half time score  Castlelyons 1-5 , Cobh 3-7.

Second half saw Castlelyons playing against the breeze as the lads tried their hardest to curtail a stronger Cobh side. Indeed Cobh did not register a score until the 15th minute as Castlelyons players improved their work rate.   This effort eventually took its toll as Cobh began to pull away towards the end and 3 late goals from Cobh in the last 5 minutes saw them run out deserving winners. Castlelyons found it difficult to get the ball into scoring territory and in addition the Cobh goalie did  make two good saves in this half to deny our lads but overall Cobh were the stronger team. Mark Spillane scored 3 points in this half and Barry Murphy scored 2 points but the overall strength and balance of the Cobh outfit proved too much for an under strength Castlelyons team.
