U16 Rebel Óg East Football League:

Kilta Óg 0-5, Castlelyons 4-07

Last Friday night, in a windswept Clonmult pitch, our U16 Footballers took on the home side Kilta Óg in the second round of the U16 Football League.  Kilta Óg won the toss and elected to play against the gale force wind in the first half. They deployed several of their forwards back around midfield in an effort to curtail the assistance of the wind, yes the tactics are starting at all age levels now. It took Castlelyons a little while to figure out how to play against a packed defence but when they did the scores came thick and plentiful. In this half we had goals from Barry Murphy (2) and James Kearney (1) and we had points from Barry Murphy (4) and Mark Spillane (1). This left Castlelyons leading by 3-5 to no score at half time.

Second half saw Kilta Óg playing with the advantage of the gale force win and early in this half they made this count as they scored 3 points without reply. However Castlelyons deployed some of the forwards in a more defensive role also in this half, as the whole team put in a huge effort.

Castlelyons got three scores in this half and every one of these was down to hard running out of defence by several players and intelligent passing and support play. David Morrison and Conor McCarthy got a point apiece and Barry Murphy goaled to leave Castlelyons lads comfortable enough winners at the final whistle.
